Per Hubbs

With Love, we continue to get the feel that this is nearly 50/50 before the official visits. Stanford will receive the first visit Jan. 16 followed by Tennessee on Jan. 23 and an official announcement is expected on Jan. 30.

Tennessee remains a comfortable place for the family with longtime family friend Tommy Thigpen having a relationship with Love's uncle since they played football together at North Carolina. But, Stanford remains in contention because of the academic prowess the school has combined with Love's idea of having a degree from one of the top universities in the country.

What's worth noting is that Tennessee has done a very good job on the recruiting trail with their academics with Dr. Joe Scogin in place as the director of the Thornton Center. Expect Scogin to give Love and his family a thorough presentation on what academic life at Tennessee can look like.

Expect to hear about a strong Tennessee presence in Wake Forest, N.C. early next week not only to see Love but also to see 2016 defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and 2017 defensive lineman Xach Gill.

IMO, Love is the most important recruit left on the board due to the position he plays and his underclassmen teammates.

Paul says that Stanford is a real possibility here because he really takes academics seriously.

It will be down to how does TN sell that part of our University to him and how does the distance factor weigh in?

I like our chances especially since we get the OV after his to Stanford.

Academics are what you make of them. You can get just as good of an education at UT as you can at Stanford.

You just have to work for it

ut has come a long way, and, im aware of its increase in national ranking among public universities. however, the 'education is what you make if it' argument, while somewhat valid may lose a bit of luster when talking about Stanford, Rice, Cal Tech, et al.

We haven't had an increase in public ranking. While Jimmy Cheek has made an effort to make the top 25 in top public research institutes (that might not be the exact wording), Forbes doesn't even have us in the top 150. Cheek is a joke. There are so many instate kids who can't qualify after Cheek raised the ACT requirements. UT is supposed to be for the instate kids and Cheek has ruined that. I can't wait until that prick is no longer here.

There is so much wrong in this post.

1. Tennessee has improved in rankings from 2010-2014.

2. Tennessee dropped slightly in 2014 because of a calculated decision to bring in a much larger class. This increased the acceptance rate, which is the sole reason for the variation in rankings. US world and news rankings are based entirely on acceptance rate, 1st year retention rate, 4 and 6 year graduation rates, and incoming student test scores.

3. Cheek didn't "increase the ACT requirements", they have simply increased based on attracting better candidates, score inflation, and limited capacity (because of the ineptitude during the 2000's, which is being appropriately rectified).

4. Forbes undergraduate rankings are a joke. They are not taken into account by anyone important. It is all about USW&N.

TL;DR, you are the joke.
