'15 NC RB Bryce Love

This cannot be stated enough. If the system does not take care of state residents it has strayed from its mission from when it was established. Natural improvement in enrollment academics is great. Tennessee Promise may help set the tone with its development of quality students that have the opportunity to transfer in at some point.

Curious how this is going to turn out with Love.

The University of Tennessee has been around since before Tennessee was a state
, so I seriously doubt it has strayed from a mission of serving state residents.

Also, UT has one of the lowest OOS rates of any peer school (SEC and geographically similar). UT is heavily focused on in-state students, just better ones than it has in the past, which is the best-case scenario for the state. Like Butch, we are keeping 4* talent in-state.

Shurburtt just CB'd him to Stanford.

Doesnt fit Stanfords scheme at all IMO. Doesn't mean he won't go there.

I have no idea why a RB would want to go to Stanford right now. They seem to play upperclassmen ahead of talent, and do not feature a single RB. I get the educational aspect of Stanford, but to travel 2500 miles for a bad football fit just seems odd when you can get a good education and a good football fit much closer to home.

If academics are important, then they have no horse in this race.

You must be joking.
UNC is one of the top academic public universities in the country. Their academics are excellent and are typically considered superior to ours.
I appreciate your desire but this is just wrong.

UNC had killed it's academic integrity with athletics. It is a great school but it has a serious cloud over its athletic department regarding academics.

Agreed there however I believe part of that responsibility is also on the athlete. They should have known classes are part of college and the could have attended.
I doubt love ( much like Dobbs) would allow himself not to go to classes. So to me it's a mute point.
Truth is you get out of school what you put in. You make it what you want.
I think he can get a good education at any of these schools. But to deny the UNC excells academically is foolish. If the athlete choses not to take ownership of his education, it is on him, at least in part.

In Dooley's reign all we signed were consolation prizes or none at all if we missed on a guy. With Butch we probably pick up a 4-star beast of a running back with high potential at other positions.

We aight.

Most of what you say is true. But for a student athlete the support and supervision set up by the athletic department is very important. If the AD turns a blind eye to students not attending class, and actually creates bogus classes so they can pass without attending, it is a huge red flag to a parent who cares about the academic progress of their child.

Oh and it is "moot point" not "mute point" :)

Don't be stupid.
I have a degree from both. I am very aware.
If an athlete wants a great education he can get it there if he choses.

While that might be true, you still are missing my point. The point is that there is a huge academic scandal going on in the athletic department. The perception of that for any recruit going there and thinking that they will get a great education is very poor right now. I would almost guarantee that if an athlete from North Carolina is trying to get a job, I wouldn't doubt that the degree from there is not looked at as highly as it once was… This is for athletes alone, not the rest of the student body. JMO of course.

Agree to all of the above. Including "moot" (my iPhone auto fills words and drives me nuts)
