Princeton played again tonight; it was senior day and they beat Lakewood 50-0. Despite the score, I was right in that the starters stayed in this one well into the third quarter. Lakewood played hard but just couldn't move the ball on Princeton's defense. It was 6-0 after one, 22-0 at the half after the scored with about 45 seconds left, and they finally got it to 42-0 after three. It was actually a highlight-reel night for a Princeton junior who will be at least an FCS-type recruit next year, Adrian Whack. He was dominant on the defensive side of the ball and also returned a kickoff 61 yards for a touchdown as the up man, eluding several defenders who had him trapped after he caught the ball and then outrunning everybody. Which isn't a big deal until you consider that Adrian is 6'1", 240.
There were rumors floating around that Johnny will de-commit from FSU in the very near future, but no one knows if he will announce a new school or if he's just going to publicly reopen things, or if the rumors were true at all. There are, as rumored, family considerations at work that have made Johnny consider schools closer to home than FSU. I discussed this with someone close to him tonight. Both NC State and Duke are very much in play, as is UT, obviously. I was told a little more, but it was off the record, and I don't feel at liberty to disclose it.
I think something is going on, because he didn't play very well (by his usual standards) tonight. I haven't seen the stats yet, but I don't think he ran for even 100 yards. Part of that was because Princeton was basically toying with Lakewood and kept lining Johnny up at slot receiver, but he wasn't himself when he did carry the ball. He looked like someone who is dealing with a distraction. Update: the official stats actually have him for 17-156. If he gained 156 yards in that game, it's the quietest 156 he's ever had in his life.
Anyway, they play arch-rival Rosewood next Friday night to conclude the regular season. I think we might know more about Johnny before then.
