Reid said the offer he received from Tennessee on Saturday was his first from an SEC team and only his second from a major-conference program, and he wasted no time referring to the Vols as his early leader among the half-dozen teams pursuing him. A few other major programs have expressed interest in him, but the early offer should give UT a good chance of remaining one of the front-runners for the record-setting back, who rushed for 3,355 yards and 39 touchdowns as a junior.

While the Vols remain in contention for several higher-ranked running backs — including Griffin and Weber, who also visited UT on Saturday — they appear to have legitimate interest in adding the 6-foot, 215-pound Reid as a between-the-tackles runner to complement the faster backs Tennessee added in the 2014 class.

Hes a between the tackles banger like LSU and Bama use. Getz stronger as the game goes on. Surprised hes not a 4 star especially with his size, stats and level of competition. A real man child out there

Would you say he's similar to Gurley?

“It was a big surprise,” "I was talking with Coach (Butch) Jones. He said that they really love me. Then, he was like, ‘You have a scholarship to the University of Tennessee.’ I was speechless. I couldn’t do nothing but smile. I can’t stop smiling.

“I really liked everything equally. I just loved it all, really,” Reid said. “(I liked) the way their fans were into the basketball game. I know it gets crazy during football season, so I loved it all.” He said he felt an “instant click” with the Vols’ coaches, including Jones, running backs coach Robert Gillespie, offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian and Mark Elder, Tennessee’s tight ends coach and special teams coordinator. Reid said the “family” environment surrounding the program is one of the things he likes most about the Vols. “It’s like a great, big family, the way the coaches show love and support,” he said

(In regards to a decision)
“I’m going to hold out until, like, a week or two before the season starts,” he said, “and then I’m going to make my commitment to wherever.”

Don't know how I feel about this one.

Curious to know why he doesn't have an offer from the big schools around the area.

It is kind of interesting he has visited or attended at camp at schools like Clemson, NC State, and UNC yet was not offered by them. Maybe the local schools think they could look for a bigger fish then grab him late if they tried. I have wished we would sign/use a bigger back for a while now. 3rd and 2 or 4th and 1 should be easy and can be with a OL who tries to run block and a bigger back who does not dance. Even when we have one(Hill), for whatever reason the coaches don't seem to utilize them. Not sure signing this kid would be any different.

You think they wouldn't be using him if he was good enough to play?

Is he an every down back? I don't think so. Should he be used in short yardage situations? I think so. Kid had 10 carries last year and averaged almost 6 yards a carry. Other than Lane/Neal he is the only RB to put one in the endzone. Yes, I'd like to see him get more of a chance.
