'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

Doug Matthews stated that he feels even stronger this week about the Vols not signing another QB in this class because he said that he has been told that UT coaches have made the decision to not accept or sign another QB in this class, whether that players is a dual threat QB or a pro-style QB. Jennings and Dormady are their QBs in this class.

Excited to this guy continue to progress. Looks like he has a quick release and good touch. Combined with his athleticism he could really shine at QB with the weapons he would have.

Kid's got a good arm on him. And to be honest, he's about as dangerous running the ball as Gibson is. There's a reason why he's the state's No.1 HS player this year.

I don't know. His arm needs a lot of work. That 35 yard moon ball (00:46) wasn't exactly impressive. But as long as Dobbs can run the show the remainder of his eligibility, that should give JJ enough time to gain some serious arm strength and to polish his throwing motion.

I do like his running ability. Sometimes he gets a little too fancy for SEC play. But then again, he is far more athletic than many of the guys attempting to tackle him currently so he can get away with it. I'm sure our staff can teach him how to run safely. He appears to have great field vision while running, and that isn't something that is simple to teach.

It will be really interesting to see how the battle between QD and JJ unfolds. IMO, it comes down to Dobb's play. If someone has to get thrown in early, I think it will be QB. If they both have a chance to red shirt (and even a year after that) things could get pretty competitive.

And flame me all you want for this, but if TG signs with us (I don't think he will) JJ gets bumped to defense within the first year. That is just my personal opinion of course.

Johnny Manziel got fancy with his running and scrambling in the SEC and he faired pretty well. The"moon ball" you referred to didn't look spectacular but did you see the height advantage that receiver had on the DB? Maybe just exploiting the mismatch?

Watching Jauan Jennings out at the Ravenwood 7on7. He's going both ways out here. Just threw a nice TD on the run to Quen Hardy. Shows really nice touch.
That came after he broke up 2 straight balls at safety.

I like his footwork , even if it's not always mechanically perfect. Just has a gracefulness about his movements.

Barton Simmons...

"I think Jennings is a better QB than Torrance Gibson. That being said I wasn't that wowed by his arm strength and he was the best safety at the event. He was all over the place at safety"

Makes sense. He seems like a natural at FS to me . However, if he really wants to play qb, I think he will be successful.

I'm all for Jennings at safety. He'd have mad ball hawk skills. Especially considering Gaulden, Berry, and McDowell may end up elsewhere.
