Solid practice player that's taking up a scholly. That's the whole point, there is a limited number of scholarships available. And instead of keeping the locals happy with my neighbor's kid is playing for UT, I would be more happy with UT winning games. Even if that means not giving local kids a scholly and going outside the area to get better more college ready players. Like I said, I hope this isn't a move to give the locals some warm feel good moment, and more about the coaches see something in this kid and he is about to blow up. The offer list just suggests otherwise.

Butch has had plenty of opportunities to throw bones to the locals (Rollins for example) and hasn't done so. TKjr and possibly Josh Smith are the only locals Butch has been responsible for signing. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

You gotta have practice players. The superstars just transfer when they get beat out. We don't need a team full of Cody Blancs, but a couple a year is worth taking the risk on. Good PR move, always a chance they are actually good, worst case you have a solid scout team player who can play a role in practice.

You're still waiting on Blanc and Smith to contribute. I'm still waiting on Randall Cobb to be a bust.

How long ago did Randall play in college again? What was his offer list? Strawman argument. I would dare say Devrin was a reach, but at least he has given us some solid special teams play.

This BOOM brought to you by the number six, the letter F......and Mirko "CroCop" Filipovic's left shin.

Kendrick went to CAK as well.

100% agree. Let Bama get every 4 and 5 star player out their but 20-30% will leave because of playing time. That is why it is counterintuitive to rack up nothing but All-Americans.

Bama has had quite a few guys leave because they were highly touted players out of high school and think they should start regardless.

Somebody should push-pin your post.

I get very irritated when Butch and staff take commitments from football players without consulting with the experts on VN. Is that not in his contract?

I want every 4 and 5 star player too, but every team takes a few reaches. Alabama does it too. The key is not taking too many. Butch is more Saban than Dooley in this regard.

If it was 2014, I would agree with you. Unfortunately, this year we have a smaller number of schollies we can accept. And if we weren't in on so many other higher rated talent it wouldn't be an issue. But trying to claw back to the top of the stiffest conference in the country means you can't miss a lot and expect to get results on the field. I hope I'm wrong, and I'll gladly consume a helping of crow if I am.

I'm sorry. Let me blindly boom every commit and not discuss it on a UT sports message board forum where people come to talk about anything related to UT sports.

BOOM! :good!:

On thing I thought about was that since Butch has been here, he has had very little off the field trouble from his players. I think some reason for this is that he simply doesn't recruit trouble makers, regardless of star rating. Sadly a lot of trouble makers tend to be 4 and 5 star players.

Could be a link there but who knows. All I can do is trust the Butch & Co's judgement.

And that's a valid point. If a kid isn't going to see the field because of potential off the field incidents, I would rather we avoid them as well. And like I've stated in the past, I don't look at star ratings as much as I do offer lists and level of competition when the recruit played in high school. Even film can be deceiving, because who is going to have film of a guy dropping balls and missing tackles.
