'15 TN ATH Jocquez Bruce (UT commit 6/17/14)

Hmm went back and listened to the Sports Animal interview with Joc. Said he transferred after his freshmen year because he couldn't stay out of trouble. He said it worked out really well for him.

I thought kids who got in trouble were destined to be thugs for life. That's what the Darel Middleton thread taught me anyway.

Middleton has a significant track record

The next question I would pose is when did Devrin start fielding punts and kicks? Has he done it all 3 years or just last year. From what I remember the guys you named were here for 4 years. So of course 1 -2 years worth of stats would be less than 3-4 years worth. And I don't have anything against Devrin, because I too was glad we got someone back there that could field a kick without dropping it all over the place. Just wanted to point out that stats don't always tell the full story when comparing to other players.

DY has handled kicks since he was a freshman. I remember him getting blasted in the Bama and fair catching everything the rest of the season.

My 2 cents on Jocquez

I don't know if the kid is SEC level or not. But I do know that the coach running the show at UT with his butt on the line seems to think he needs JB on his team. And that's enough for me until he shows me otherwise.

I likes the way you thinks

Pretty much agree with this post. I hope it works out for Bruce, it's pretty obvious the kid bleeds orange. His commitment was "surprising" but it sounds like he competed and earned his spot.

Yeah, IMO Bruce is a Vol and signs on NSD. Don't really care about the *'s or who else is on the board. Once they take his commitment, as long as he does nothing negative to hurt his chances, sign him up IMO.

Agree plus he is suppose to be a high character kid with great work ethic.

I think Bruce is well aware that his offer and subsequent acceptance of his commitment is not set in stone and that it's imperative to continually prove to the UT coaches that he's deserved of it

@BruceAlmighty06: Anything you truly want must be worth fighting for 🏈👊

@BruceAlmighty06: Excuses are for people who don't want it bad enough.

Needless to say, I like his attitude.

Unless he has some grade issues arise or character concerns IMO he is safe. I don't think there is any way this kid does not end up in Orange. He is about to head into his SR season of HS football. I'd imagine winning this year has him ready to fight. :good!:

I think you are making a pretty strong assumption without any concrete evidence

If they had any questions on whether to let Bruce sign and be part of the class then they wouldn't have accepted committment immediately. They would have waited for other dominoes to fall. You don't drop local kids without a real big reason to do so like academics or trouble.

It's a novel concept and one I hope Butch never gets away from...he sees a player and decides he wants a player...stars be darned...he can be more selective than he was in the past but he doesn't view a player like Bruce as a "reach" or a "project"...but as someone he wants contributing to his success...best get used to it. :good!:

I'm sure Booth does too...a better case study would be in the Sterling Johnson and Yacquis Shelley recruitments THIS YEAR...if'n we were just taking commits to let them loose. :hi:

Do you (of Volnation.com) believe wholeheartedly that if Butch Jones was hooked up to a polygraph machine and asked "Coach, if you could have any 24 recruits for your 2015 recruiting class would all your current 19 commitments be on your list?" that his answer would be "yes" and still pass the test? I, like Basilio's X yesterday, believe there are recruits out there, like it or not, that we would not turn away. As a result, there would be casualties to the current commitment list if/when we reach the signing limit. I'm not saying Bruce would be the first nor the last to go. I'm just saying each commitment has a unique value who has the potential for another commitment to be more valuable. I think Bruce recognizes the brutal truth and he's willing to "fight" to be on the roster next year. Again, I like that attitude

Agree. Some will be asked to look elsewhere if we need to make room for better recruits.

Disagree...they wouldn't be commits if that was the case...you think Butch is in THAT big of a hurry?
