'15 TN ATH Jocquez Bruce (UT commit 6/17/14)

"Obviously, a tough day for Bruce as he has decided to leave the hometown school, but this seemed inevitable after he was indefinitely suspended from the team.

What does it mean for Team119 and the future? Bruce was having a good summer on the field and showed plenty of athleticism and the ability to help this team in some capacity during his career. It's likely not a huge blow, but he performed well this summer as a receiver and showed potential.

As for the future, since Bruce was a blue shirt he never officially went on scholarship. Blue shirts don't count until after Aug. 1.

Tennessee will be able to use that spot for another signee in 2016."

- Fortenberry

You better be on point or we will take the 2016 spot and show you the door. Makes sense to me

This gives me even more respect for Croom. These new guys have to respect traditions. I just hope he didn't hurt his hand.

That's one heck of a tradition/superstition,, it's sad that a guy gets 'dropped' by a teammate, then kicked off the team just for walking on a piece of carpet with a 'T' on it.... There has to be more to the story. Time will tell

Sounds like MizTerry's baby boy gave him the ole 1-2

The story of J Bruce is one of the stranger ones I've heard since I started following recruiting. I thought he would be a "feel good" story for his career at UT given how much he claimed he wanted to be here.

Reminds me just a little of the running back from Lousiana a few years back that was close lined by McCullers in the first fall practice and quit the team. Just an unexpectedly fast exit from the team for someone I was interested to watch develop.
Quenshon Watson took his jacket and went home

If this really did happen, wonder if Bruce will press charges for assault. Doubt "I hit him because he didn't respect tradition" would stand up in court. Bruce's financial loss (loss of a scholarship) is substantial.

If this ever happened Bruce would be kissing his future in football goodbye

He was called out for walking where he shouldn't. He was dropped for he's actions afterward.

I'm not a lawyer, but I can see the ambulance chasers circling. Like it or not, you can't punch somebody because they disrespected you or some entity you represent.

He was punched for what he did after he was called out. If the rumors are correct then he got pretty confrontational. Not necessarily as black and white as he got hit for nothing in the eyes of the law. Maybe he was the first aggressor. You didn't see the incident so you're making some big assumptions.

Also him getting punched has nothing to do with him getting cut. It's not like Butch cut him because he got hit. He got cut because of his attitude. So on top of there being no scholarship for him to sue over, the actions did not directly result in him losing his spot.

True. He could've been the first aggressor .

Didn't Fortenberry say Bruce has chose to leave the program? He didn't say he was cut

Well it seems picked up a mean streak but let's save it for the field. Not our own teammates. Still skeptical if this is true or not. Either way wish Bruce luck in the future.

The locker room incident is 100% true. Bruce walked right over the T and consequently got knocked unconscious by a UT teammate. Bruce knew the T wasn't to be walked on & did it anyway. He also had not been taking academics/tutoring sessions seriously & wouldn't take any advice from other teammates. He acted like he was too good to take advice from teammates.

The rumor that the other teammate that attacked Bruce being Jason Croom is not what I've been told. I won't name the player I've been told, but it wouldn't surprise me at all. It was the same UT player that just last year beat a fellow teammate (former player now) an inch from his life over an off-the-field incident.

Either way. Bruce wasn't ever going to amount to much as a UT football player, IMO. Seemed like a career special teams player to me. He was entitled & lazy. Now he is gone. Good-luck to Bruce in the future, but he didn't honestly didn't have the skill or commitment to be a Tennessee football player.
