'15 TN ATH Nathan Cottrell

The competition in Knoxville area isn't the best. Maybe they want to see how he does in camps before making an offer. I'd imagine our staff has already evaluated him to an extent, but wants to see him more in depth due to mediocre competition level in East TN.

Probably correct.

Knox West beat Asheville NC and Asheville is usually one of the better 3a teams in NC.

I'd take him, redshirt him, and mold him into a great slot receiver when goobers leave in three years.

Well sorry to get the race card started but people truly can't see a white kid playing RB! Everyone on here is saying safety or slot?! Why not RB? Looking at the taj griffin hudl(whom we have offered) and the Cottrell hudl not much difference! Both are special, Griffin shows more lateral movement but they had the same SPARQ score in those drills so not a big deal. I think Cottrell is the better returner. But the biggest difference in why Griffin has the offers is that he had a great sophomore season under his belt. And I think the competition in Atlanta is a lot better.

Heard from some West coaches that they regret playing him at safety his soph. year.Even though they said he played well. He's just that much better at RB and returner they think.

I think if you give it time this kid is gonna get offers across the board. I'd like us to offer but I'm not sure if we are a good fit. Heard LSU,Mizzou and Vandy all super interested out of the SEC...Also heard Georgia Tech very close to offering before the big SPARQ combine. So will see what happens but I'm guessing he gets several offers this spring and after the summer camps the flood gates of offers will come through.

Who specifically are you talking about?

I gave the examples of Sentimore, tiny, and the many not ready guys who go to the draft. The quality of play is going down in the NFL because players are leaving earlier and the subtraction of practices. The problem is actually killing the NBA.

Was confused because you mentioned Cottrell stepping in to play slot "when the goobers leave in 3 years". Assumed you meant we had a slot "goober" whose place he would take. Guess I missed the segue.

UT is evaluating Nathan. Nathan has been on campus. They have been to the school on a few occasions. West LB Cody Underwood signed as a preferred walkon and Geoerge Bullock is the K, so they know the program.

UT just has not offered. Don't know if they will. We wil see.

I think he would fit the role the staff is looking for as a change of pace RB. IF they are looking at him as a slot WR, I'd bet they need to see more of him catching the ball. Only 16 receptions last year is not a lot to go off of.

Fwiw, I think most are skeptical of him as RB because his high school uses him as more of a wing back than a true RB. Nobody questions his athleticism. His athleticism is why people are suggesting multiple positions.

West runs a Veer offense. He is the left halfback. There is no wing back. You probably saw him line up in the slot position and he does motion out that position on occasions. He is very comfortable running inside.

If UT offers, is he a lock?

Something popped out at me in that article that was posted.......wonder if there's family ties there??

Thats why I think he's a RB! I'm very familar with the Veer offense which Carson newman runs I think. Its more impressive to me to see a guy get his numbers in a triple option style offense were he is not getting the ball 20 times a game. I wonder how mind blowing his numbers would be in a multiple I?? Point is that its easier to have big numbers as a back in an I formation or Zone scheme. The fact he has done this in a split back veer is pretty impressive.
