'15 TN CB Ugo Amadi

Sorry to quote from a while back, but I have a theory on this. It is just my guess, but I think the coaches will "take" just about anybody they have at least verbally extended an offer too, even if they have guys higher on the board they are in play with. I think when it's far from signing day they don't want to risk burning any unnecessary bridges. Say with Bailey Phillips... if they really weren't ready for his commitment and said no you can't commit right now then that might offend Miller and he decommit. But if you wait until after Miller has signed and even wait til say november/december next year and kind of maybe not call Phillips for a month or something and he kind of gets the picture, you don't have to create an unnecessary mess. Dropping them without really having to drop them I guess. Or also, over-recruiting a position can work too a la Kevin Mouhon. Maybe I'm completely off, but that's always been my guess.

They said no or at least not yet to a lot of kids who held UT offers. Sterling Johnson, Marquell Harrell, Duke Shelley, Torrance Gibson, and many others. IMO the staff takes commitments from kids they intend to sign come NSD. They pass on those they don't.

Ugo Amadi's parents are expected in Knoxville with him this weekend to make an official visit and that should be perceived as a good sign as they have yet to accompany Amadi on any of his other officials.

Amadi has been interesting story. Tennessee were the early leaders in his recruitment and then the Vols seem to have dropped the ball letting Ole Miss steal him away only for the Vols and head coach Butch Jones to really push there the last few weeks. Tennessee seems to have made some real progress with Amadi and from what we can gather he's heading to Knoxville with a very open mind.

Additionally, Amadi gets along very well with Terry Fair. And lastly, helping Tennessee gain ground on the Ole Miss commitment is the fact the Vols have discussed a willingness to look at Amadi on special teams returns in addition to where he would fit defensively at the nickel. Amadi possesses an extremely strong skill-set as a return man, particularly at punt returner where he could alleviate the burden of having the team's top shutdown corner, Cam Sutton, doubling as the starting punt returner.

With LSU having backed off recently that one looks like it's becoming a Tennessee-Ole Miss battle and if Amadi has a good weekend in Knoxville the Vols could have some real momentum coming out of the weekend.

Looks like we have momentum here.

I know numbers all work out but man are we pushing it. big time.

Any chance we are trying to replace Miller with Ugo? Is Miller considered a nickel or pure CB? I just think back and we amped up Ugo's recruitment around the same time when Miller visited tOSU.

I think there has to be some way Martin will count for next year. There will be a few asked to walk on and some are probably already being recruited over if they are looking around. I think we probably have backup plans for our backup plans though. :eek:lol:

I hope we are able to land him. I thought he was ours early on. He is small but very talented. It would be a nice way to stick it to Ole Miss.

Get him, Kirkland, Newsome, and flip Richmond. Maybe add love. O how awesome it would be.

I know we are looking pretty good at DE right now and are still in it with Walker, but I would still love to see Phillips in orange. He has been one of my biggest wants from the start. It looks like a real possibility too. You also can't leave Martin off of your list.

I don't mean to be a dick, but I don't see how this kid fits into the class. IMO Abernathy is a better prospect, and a convincing argument could be made for Miller as well. Except for a potentially-elite guy like Justin Martin, I'd call it a day at CB for this class. If Miller were to flip then I'd reconsider, but as it stands...

I like Miller. There was a while that I thought his commitment might be a little shaky, but it has seemed quiet lately. I personally like Amadi better. The numbers will work themselves out just like last year.

How does Amadi compare to D'Andre Payne? Is Payne redshirting this season? I can't think of a time he's been on the field.

Payne has played. He will not redshirt. A lot of freshmen have played this year...trial by fire. We will better for it next year though.

not that i dont trust VQ. but, this kid appears enamored with Ole Miss. we could use a lockdown CB.
