'15 TN CB Ugo Amadi

Hmm... Starting to wonder if the CB from Texas has backed off his commitment, or if we are not in good position with any of our top CB prospects. Or maybe we want Phillips so bad that the coaches will take a package deal to get him. Didn't he camp at UT this summer?
I'll be honest I think we are turning up the heat on ugo for a couple reasons. 1 he is a good player. I think he will make a great nickel back. 2 I think if we flip him it helps with Phillips, then in my dream world Phillips and ugo start getting in Richmond sear about how much better ut is than ole miss. 3 butch knows that he needs to keep this years in state talent in state that it will help with future recruiting in state because most of these schools that Phillis, ugo, and Richmond go to tend to have some pretty good players yr in and yr out. Ok that's more than a couple reasons.

Excatly man. You nailed it. It's great when we obtain guys from South Knox or Maryville, but you have to get into the true breeding grounds of TN to recruit the state efficiently every year.

Good points. I just wonder if he decides to come to UT, then does the CB from Texas that we have committed end up elsewhere. I guess that all depends upon if someone like Martin, Brazil, or Abernathy decide to be a Vol.

Glad someone agree's with me. I was waiting to get blasted for my opinion.

Maybe it's just me I like the kid from Texas but I would rather have ugo this yr. here is why we got solid depth at corner right now and the 2016 class is loaded with good defensive backs and we are in on a few already so I'm ok losing the kid from Texas if that means landing ugo especially since next years db class could be un real. Even though I really do like recruits from Texas really good football down there.

I doubt they drop the TX kid who is committed for this class. Now the 5'7 kid in '16 is another story, especially with Osborne on board now and a couple other big-timers being real possibilities in that class. As for Darrell Miller he's the only corner commit so far and he looks pretty good to me. He's apparently been really good at all the camps he's attended. I think they've turned up the heat on Ugo because they know they need at last 2 more cornerbacks in this class and there is no doubt he's a big influence with Phillips and Perry.

Danny Parker has stated in the past he doesn't believe Banks will be part of the class. Haven't seen him really touch on it lately though

I was talking about Bailey Phillips. But Banks wouldn't shock me either, he simply hasn't grown any like I think most people hoped he would.

The kid is REAL fast but not very good. Comparable to Eric Gordon out of Hillsboro.

I never thought of Eric Gordon as being particularly fast.

He was fast enough to outrun everyone on Candy's team on that pick returned for TD in OT a couple of years back though. I was at that game and completely lost my shizz.

I really don't understand why you accept either of those commitments this early in the process. The coaches know a lot more than I do though.

I was very surprised they took Phillips especially when he showed up at 5'7. That said, it's still very early and I'm sure we'll see the commit list change quite a bit over the next several months.

After a year and a half, I think you can predict Butch's way of recruiting. Some guys, he will just flat out not let commit because he knows about others in the fold. With some, he will take their commitment, knowing that he is still recruiting others who are higher up. If he loses out on the others, then the commitment is fine. If he lands the others, then he finds a way to mutually part ways. It is just a pattern that has developed. Some fans may not like it, but you can't argue with the results so far. He knows what he is doing.

That makes a lot of sense, and I think you're probably right. I guess you could just count me among the portion of the fan base that's a little uncomfortable with it. I keep thinking it's going to backfire eventually. Actually, it kind of already did with the MUS staff while Butch was at Cincy and had to tell an MUS signee he couldn't enroll because they had over-signed. I doubt that had much to do with Richmond's decision, but it probably didn't help either.

Anyway, I guess as long as it ends up being a net positive over the long haul, I can live with it. That said, I still don't think it's quite right, and I'll probably still complain about it from time to time.

You have to take the bad with the good though, and so far, with Butch, the good by far outweighs the bad.

I mistyped on my original post Ugo is very good.

Eric Gordon was very fast and played at the same HS level as Ugo.

When he gets to an SEC roster he will have legit speed as did Eric so I dont mean to imply he is a burner, he is probably 4.5 range.
Which is plenty fast if you have the quick feet he does.

There are 4 D1 players (2 SEC) on Fr Ryans defense and he racked up close to 400 yards of offense.

Sorry to quote from a while back, but I have a theory on this. It is just my guess, but I think the coaches will "take" just about anybody they have at least verbally extended an offer too, even if they have guys higher on the board they are in play with. I think when it's far from signing day they don't want to risk burning any unnecessary bridges. Say with Bailey Phillips... if they really weren't ready for his commitment and said no you can't commit right now then that might offend Miller and he decommit. But if you wait until after Miller has signed and even wait til say november/december next year and kind of maybe not call Phillips for a month or something and he kind of gets the picture, you don't have to create an unnecessary mess. Dropping them without really having to drop them I guess. Or also, over-recruiting a position can work too a la Kevin Mouhon. Maybe I'm completely off, but that's always been my guess.
