That is a not so bright arugument. Reality is not many recruits want to go that far away from home, money for the parents is an issue, and they don't recruit the se a ton. I doubt they are marking tn as their destination state in the south in terms of recruiting hot bed. We have had a rise in top level talent but let's not kidd ourselves by saying that schools to the far west have marked us top priority. Plus butch take care of it.
This recruitment makes me think of a "when keeping it real goes wrong" clip.
I'm keeping it real and committing with my homie in the dirty dirty
(uhhh the dirty dirty just did you dirty; they just lost their DC and your homie committed in state)
...awww chit...
well I'm keeping it real and moving 1000's of miles away then
Reality is you never know what will appeal to a young man. Some want to stay close to home, some want to get away. Schools like Oregon who are routinely in the NC picture can afford to cherry pick, just like Bama. Taking a kid from TN gives them an in-road to the state. Next year, if there's a TN recruit they want, they'll sell up having Ugo on their team. I know some on here don't think he's that talented, but DE1, whom everyone seems to trust, has said this young man is better than he's given credit for. So, Oregon just came into our state and took a talented prospect. I'll agree he seems to have problems and I'm not disappointed he didn't choose the Vols(we don't need players with baggage), but he absolutely provides an in-road for Oregon to the state of TN.
The only "not so bright" arguement I see is your last statement. Butch has recruited his ass off, but let's not pretend he hasn't lost a few recruiting battles. He's not going to get every player he wants. I doubt any coach does.
I think we get what we want. Hard to see your point with all these top five clases in my way. I'm definitely not worried about Oregon 3000 miled away. If I were to worry, it'd be about other sec schools poaching on our players.
So are you calling Richmond to flip to UT, because Butch wanted him? There's several other players Butch wanted as well that are committed to other schools. As I said, Butch has worked his ass off, but we don't just get what we want. If we got what we want, we'd be number one. I'm happy being in the top 5, but any coach able to get every player he wants is going to be sitting at #1.
And I can assure you, Butch worries about any school, SEC or otherwise, dipping into TN to take guys we're recruiting. The less competition, the better. You devalue the work Butch and staff put into recruiting by acting like these guys just fall over themselves to come here. They have to be sold on UT, and they have to be sold on Butch. Any obstacle is a concern they have to deal with.
