" Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland linebacker Josh Smith has a brother, Emmanuel, committed to Vanderbilt but Tennessee commit and teammate Jack Jones is working hard on Josh Smith. The 2015 standout is receiving a lot more interest. Smith said Ohio State, Georgia, Auburn, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Purdue and Wake Forest are interested."

9. LB JOSH SMITH, MURFREESBORO (TENN.) OAKLAND
Smith is a big kid with a great frame who can cover a lot of ground with his size. He could end up growing into a defensive end down the line based on his size, if he's not careful. He was solid in drills but didn't really stand out in one-on-ones, likely because it's hard for bigger linebackers to check smaller running backs with so much spacing.

SKILL ASSESSMENT: After having to sit out last year because of a knee injury, Smith exploded onto the scene this summer with numerous impressive camp performances. He's the size and quickness needed to play several linebacker positions at the next level.

STATUS WITH VOLS: Despite his older brother, Emmanuel Smith, being committed to Vanderbilt, the younger Smith has been on campus numerous times and seems to like Tennessee early on.

OTHERS INVOLVED: Vanderbilt, Kentucky

He still could be committed to Vandy though. We didn't lose all of our commits from Doolz to Butch.

I just can't believe this rape scandal isn't going to cause some mass defections in Vandy's current 2014 commits. If you read what came out yesterday regarding the details of the case... there were at least 7-8 players involved... That's nearly 1/10 of their team. Including their starting QB and their second best player Chris Boyd. Then you throw in the player on player stabbing from earlier this year and you start to see a disturbing picture developing at Vandy under Franklin.

I gotta believe that a lot of recruits (and their parents), like Josh and Emmanuel, are looking around and commit elsewhere at the end of the day.... like Josh Malone.

"It was a great experience. One of the biggest and best crowds I've been to at UT," said the fluid, 6-foot-3.5, 218-pounder. "It was a great game. I'm kind of sad they (the Georgia Bulldogs) pulled it out at the end. I was rooting for em. Coach Butch (Jones) called some really good plays on fourth-down and distance."

"It shows me that Butch has a lot of confidence in his team and offense to get first downs and make game-changing plays," Smith said. "It shows he trusts his team and trusts the game plan."

"I went through some of the recruiting stuff, talked to coaches and went through all the facilities. But the game was one of the top things about the visit this time," Smith said. "It's a way different feeling. I feel like the team and a lot of the recruits are buying into it. A lot of people are bigger on Tennessee. The crowd, the atmosphere are a lot better. All the fans were all into it through the whole game. There were no real down spots with the crowd and atmosphere.

"I liked the gray uniforms a lot. They were very slick. That was probably one of the top things, too, about the visit." "I talked to Coach Thig before the game. We have a real good relationship," Smith said. "He's very energetic and upbeat about football. Very positive. And he cares and tries to get to me know me a lot better than just for football."

“It was a great game[.] I wasn’t expecting it to be as close of a game, but it was, and you got your money’s worth and what you paid for. They played hard, they had nice uniforms, and the coaching staff had some good plays calls and everything.

“I think this might have been the biggest crowd (at a game) that I’ve been to at UT, and the loudest.”

“I like them,” said Smith, who’s the younger brother of Vanderbilt commitment Emmanuel Smith, a four-star senior safety. “I like a lot of schools.”

“I talked to Coach Thig’ before the game, and he asked me about how the season was going and how everything was going around football and school,” said Smith, who officially picked up an offer from Kentucky on Tuesday after getting an offer from Ole Miss last month.

“(Thigpen) sees me playing linebacker — not sure which (linebacker spot) yet, but he said I can be something big in the defense if I were to come to UT. They tell me that they definitely want me to come to UT.”

He was supposed to be at the Ole Miss vs. Texas A&M game yesterday. He said that tOSU has not offered, but they are showing a lot of interest. The tOSU staff is trying to get him to visit. Last, he said that he is unsure if he will be able to make it to another UT game this season.
