15 TN QB Matt Williams

Because Nick Marshall types are 'winning big' at power conferences all over the country?!? He is a lightening in a bottle type of QB.

They excel when they are in the right type of offense. Our offense would greatly benefit from a true athlete at QB.

Riley may not be a prototypical Dual threat, but he can tuck it and run when he needs to.

He's not a sitting duck (Worley) in the pocket.

I know. He isn't labeled a "dual threat," but he can extend the play and pick up the first down and that's all we need.

Please clarify.

He threw for over 4,000 yards as a junior. How is it you say he was benched in the 2nd game?

He saw the hand-writing on the wall after he got benched last year that J. Jennings would be the guy this year. He went to a non-TSSAA sanctioned school and reclassified. He was throwing to 2 different receivers that were MUCH better athletes than ANYBODY else they played. Think throwing fades to CP and J. Hunter who are covered by basically short linebackers and that is what you had with him this year.

I would much rather look at his "True" Junior tape and evaluate against similar competition.....it wasn't pretty. In my opinion, the kid doesn't have it between the ears. He does have a cannon, but if he isn't throwing deep balls to open receivers, he is VERY limited.

Give me Jennings, who is at Blackman now (and part of the reason for the transfer to Lancaster) as one of our QB's in the 15 class.

That's enough for me to make my opinion.

With the coaches missing on their QB targets this year, maybe the plan is to try and lock this kid up early on and then still go after a top 5 type QB and take (2) in 2015. Not sure numbers will allow for it, but maybe it works out.

Worley will be gone by then. Peterman could very well be gone as well. If the depth chart is just Ferguson and Dobbs, taking (2) in 2015 may be a priority.

Completely agree on taking 2 in '15, but this would be a waste of 1. In my opinion, take a kid like Jennings (who is a bit of a project but insanely talented) and you put all the rest of your eggs in a top 5 ELITE QB.

You know, I wonder if Jennings could be our Nick Marshall type.

What volinSmyrna said about getting benched and having two superior WRs worries me but I'll trust the coaches judgment for now. If it were Dooley's crew I would REALLY be worried.

Sorry I'm a little lost... who?

:lolabove: Only one of the greatest football players to ever come out of the state of TN.

....even if he has been a thorn in our side in the past.

They also played a middle school team. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

They didn't play a middle school team. :shakehead:
Lancaster plays their home games at Smyrna Middle School.

He attended Blackman HS his Jr year. He was benched after the 2nd game for a QB not named Jennings. He transfered to Lancaster (his 3rd high school in three years 9th grade-Lancaster, 10th grade- Father Ryan, 11th grade Blackman, 12 grade - Lancaster) He may have reclassified this year but he's already played 4 years of high school ball. He hasn't been at the same school for back to back years since the 6th grade.

I would love to get Jennings but isn't he widely considered an OSU lock?

MTCS- 7th grade, Eagleville- 8th grade. Certainly a disturbing trend.

Yeah that should be a huge red flag IMO. I've only seen that pattern where kids jump from school to school a few times up here in Cincy among legit D1 type talents and none of them made it in college. They jumped around just as much in college as they did in Middle and High School. It usually means an incredibly overbearing parent who is nothing but trouble.

"Man, to be honest I was stuck in awe for a second. 'Butch Jones really just called me?'," Williams said he asked himself. "I just got an offer. And then I told my guy that I work out with, his name is Dana Stewart, and that's when it amped up. After the awe-moment, I threw an extra plate on there and said let's get it. Now I feel like a noodle."

"I really do desire to go to UT. I knew Coach Jones was going to call me, but I didn't really know exactly what he was calling me about," Williams said. "I had butterflies in my stomach. I was a little nervous. I was really excited. It was a great experience. And I hope there will probably be many more down the road."

"Makes me feel recognized and makes me want to put twice as many hours in. It helps me," Williams said. "I don't know if I'm wording this right, but it helps me recognize myself more. It makes me want to work harder and harder because I'm also on a six-month training program. It's an NFL Combine training program. That's really all I know about (the program) and it killed me."

-VQ

He will try to attend all of UT's camps and Junior Days.

NO! Don't know the details other than his visit didn't go too well. Very much cooled on OSU. They led early on because they were the first BIG school to offer as a QB. The others have offered as well and passed them by.

NFL Combine training program and school jumping definitely make this kid (or his parents) sound suspicious. :ermm:

Sounds like a parenting thing, but maybe once he's matured a little bit and out of the house, he won't have them bearing over him, and he can focus on his game. He's got the raw talent... two incredible receivers or not, I don't think some of our QBs would complete 73% of their passes.

That is great to hear. So how are things looking now as far as he and Tennessee go? The mid-state looks absolultely loaded again in the '15 class.

That is obviously the hope but like I've said, I've seen cases like this before from my HS coaching days and unfortunately it almost never plays out that way.
