'15 TN TE Jackson Harris

I agree with everything you said. The weird thing is that if you ask anyone from Columbia that knows Jackson or the Harris family they'll tell you has all of those qualities you just posted.
It's not always attitude and stuff like that though. He might not be the type of player we are looking for and that has been expressed by VQ before. A good TE could be an AA in a pro style offense but could be average in a spread or vice versa.

I've posted this earlier, he's just not that good. At least he wasn't last year, going to see him again this year will see for sure then.

Yeah I gotcha. Are him and Wolf not similar players though?

Arguably so. Maybe that's why we haven't offered? I can't answer your questions I can just try to provide some sort of possible explanation. FWIW I don't think we ever offer and it's not because I don't see his talent

The staff has sorta hinted that they only intend to take 1 TE this cycle. They really like what they have in Wolf and Helm. Ellis, the walk-on is flashing some, and they know what they have in Downs. Bransiel is coming off an ACL tear and Woody Quinn is TBD.

Anyhow I think the staff feels pretty good about the TE position and they are being quite selective. Chris Clark has blown up, and he seems to be the staff's #1 TE on their board. We have very good ties to Hale Hentges and Will Gragg--who we offered but we haven't recruited that hard yet. The staff seems set on Clark as the guy they really want and until they get a no from him, i don't see Jackson Harris or the 3 other TE's we've offered getting much attention. In fact, if the staff doesn't land Clark, and Wolf and Helm remain healthy and a guy like Quinn or Bransiel emerge, we might not even take a TE this class.

There are several factors to consider here. I think the staff is only going to take their top 2 or 3 targets for their system, and if they don't get either of those guys, they may focus on big time guys at other positions. Remember we are in on a lot of big time RB's, DT's, DE's, CB's and LB's and we only have 17 or less spots left. Staff is going to be very selective this year for a few position groups.

Not offering Harris can only be considered a good thing. It means that we feel good enough about the TE position or TE recruiting to not settle and it means that Jones isn't going to take a ranked instate guy just because he is a ranked instate guy.

I would guess it means the staff feels good with what they have on campus at TE. I don't think offering/taking Harris would speak to them settling as the kid has 9 other SEC offers. He has offers from every type of offense you can think of. I just remember CBJ saying he would "own the state". To me that means signing the kids who are instate and worthy of a scholarship to UT. It means making them a priority. Harris has about 40 offers and one from just about everyone in the SEC. IMO, that is the definition of an instate priority. If the staff feels they have Gragg already locked up, I'll go for that as he is a legacy. From what I have seen we are not in the top 2-3 for Clark, so I don't think we get him. Maybe the staff is willing to pass on a TE in this class so to use the spot for another position. We'll see how it plays out.

I think there is at least a 50 percent chance we don't take a TE this year. As far as "owning the state," that is all well and good, but I'd say its more of a priority for the coaches to construct the best roster with the best players. Being a top 10 ranked player in Tennessee should not guarantee you a scholarship at UT, IMO.

That, and with a small (or at least smaller) class in 2015, much more pressing needs (e.g. QB, OL, LB, etc), and the presence of two quality frosh TEs on campus, I really don't have an issue with UT not offering Harris.

I don't see how offering him is a must.

I like the young man, but apparently the coaches like someone else better, or are just not going to take a TE next year.

Locking down the state does not mean we have to take every kid in TN, It doesn't even mean we have to take one that is talented, if there is someone you like better.

Locking down the state means you get the majority if not all of the ones you want.

In watching his film this is what I see. The kid has legit size and the frame to get bigger. Obviously has to get stronger. He has very good speed. Good hands and adjust to catching the ball well. Good footwork and blocks til the whistle blows. Good leverage of a young kid that big. People on here say hes a great kid. Look at his offers. I love butch and our staff but i would offer this kid.

247 says its their understanding he doesn't fit our typical TE and that several think he ends up on either oline or dline and we have bigger fish to fry at those positions. We may eventually offer but doesn't look good at the moment.

"Jackson camped at Tennessee last summer so the Vols have scouted him in person. I know when I first saw him I wondered if he was athletic enough to play in their system the way they want to use guys, but I saw him again in January and he was much more athletic and answered those questions for me.

But Tennessee hasn't seen him since then so I think they would like the opportunity the reevaluate him in person this summer."

Will be interesting to see if he feels the need to make a return trip. He has a lot of choices right now.

Fan like us? No. But I think he really likes Tennessee and I know he has grown up around a bunch of Vol supporters.

Read on TigerDroppings his family has some connects to Ole Miss. Seems to like Vandy, Stanford and Duke. Bama really impressed Harris and family.

It is a fair assessment that Butch feels that the tight ends that he is currently recruiting have a better or different skill set than what Harris possesses.

We already have two top TEs in this past signing class and they are on campus now. Just because Harris has is from Tennessee and has been offered from some other schools does not mean that Butch has to offer him.

You have to trust the coaches evaluations and who they are recruiting. They have there reasons.

He may not fit the staffs recruiting profile that CBJ speaks of so often.
