'15 TX QB Jarrett Stidham (Baylor commit)

That makes sense. Thanks for sharing. Could certainly understand the reluctance to deal with large money boosters. I just assumed it was like a dream job for him.

I'm sure on some level, or at some point it is/was. But I'd say at his age, his desire to run his own ship is far greater than coaching at a particular school.

To some extent, I think that is the problem Texas ran into with their coaching search as a whole. It's a great gig, but dealing with those hands on, big money boosters seems to be a whole other league compared to some other great programs.

I could see Nick Saban do that to Alabama back in 2007/2008 but Art didin't necessarily have the NC ring on his hand. I'll admit I know jack about Art Briles but from an outsiders perspective it looks like a "clown move, bro."

Nah, I think it's a boss move. Straight power move. I like it, ballsy.

I used to really like the dude and he seems like a class act for the most part but he's starting to come off as pretty arrogant.

If he knew he didn't want the job, why would he hurt his recruiting by interviewing? How's that arrogant?

Arkansas pulled that garbage with Bill Self. Told him he had to come interview without offering. That destroys recruiting if you don't get the job.

He probably was content without ever coaching Texas. If he wanted it he would have interviewed. What's so humiliating about an interview?

When you do what he has done at Baylor and in the state of TX that's his interview. Those people know him. Everyone knows him in TX. That and him being happy where he was is probably why he said no interview. He could also have thought they were not serious enough about offering and would just interview him so they can publicly reject him and use it in recruiting

All good points

It wasn't that he didn't want the job, he felt like his resume spoke for itself and should've been offered on that alone. Very few coaches get jobs without "interviewing". The AD wants to know philosophy, personality etc even if they see it on paper.

It doesn't hurt recruiting, that's when coaches say they've pulled their name out of the ring when they know they're not getting it or aren't planning on taking it. It was very public that we "interviewed" and likely offered Gundy and definitely Strong. No way we threw an offer down without discussing things first and Strong was coming off a BCS bowl victory over a team we haven't beat in 10 years; his resume spoke as loudly as Briles.
