Butch Jones & Tennessee On A Recruiting Roll

Free Read

Butch Jones is bringing in dudes to Knoxville.

Butch Jones and his staff have recruited a ton of talent to Knoxville and Top247 2015 QB Quinten Dormady could be the guy that ties it all together.

Jones and his staff signed the nation’s No. 7 ranked recruiting class in 2014.

He’s currently working on a Top10 class in 2015, 22 players strong at this point, a group that also checks in at No. 7 nationally..

With those numbers, no surprise the Vols are starting fast in 2016 as well. Landing four-star quarterback Austin Kendall on Sunday was the fifth pledge in the junior class, as that group ranks No. 3 nationally which is also good for No. 1 in the SEC thus far.

Outside of the strong-armed Kendall’s physical tools at 6-foot-2, 205-pounds, the country’s No. 9 pro-style passer in his class is a major competitor when talking to coaches at Charlotte (N.C.) Christian, the program he led to a state championship as a sophomore.

Kendall loves to compete, “that’s his makeup,” and programs are going to be successful with guys like that.

Jones is creating competition within his program by bringing in major talent at all positions on the field. Both the 2014 and 2015 classes are full of difference makers at every spot on both sides of the ball, and Jones and his staff are also well respected among their peers as strong x’s and o’s guys that will give their players a chance to win every Saturday with a good game plan.

Tennessee inked 19 players in 2014 that held a four-star or better rating either by 247Sports or the 247Sports Composite. Nine so far have given a verbal in 2015 including the nation’s No. 1 receiver Preston Williams and the nation’s No. 1 defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie.

While we’ve already talked about the latest news in Kendall, there isn’t a player more important to this recruiting run for Jones and his staff as they aim to turn things around on the field than class-of-2015 quarterback commit Quinten Dormady. The nation’s No. 5 pro-style passer in his class according to 247Sports, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Dormady was a top-of-the-board signal-caller for several schools including rival Alabama before he committed to the Vols in early June.

If Dormady is the trigger man that Jones and offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian envision him to be, he will be the guy that helps tie all this recruited talent together as the Vols climb back into the hunt for SEC Championships year in and year out, which goes in hand with being in the National Title hunt year in and year out.

Good things are seriously brewing in Knoxville.

IMO.....I believe we are going to start seeing those Tx offers meaning less to Texas kids. The offer might still mean something, but the feeling of WANTING to go there is going to become less. A&M's move to the SEC coupled with the LHN ruining the big twelve will come into play.

To me the ones that are going to reap the benefits of UTx's greediness and being about 20 years behind the times for a power TV move are aTM, Baylor and Texas Tech. I also think we will see more Tx kids looking at other SEC schools because of aTM's move.

Of course JMO.

aTm's move has paid off exponentially for them. In years past LSU pulled a decent number of kids out of TX (still do to an extent), kids wanting to play in the SEC. They no longer have to go elsewhere to play in the SEC, and aTm has done a good job of even pulling LA kids now. Kids that they likely could have never pulled 2 years ago.

Agreed, it also helps that Sumlin can actually coach. Recruiting from the Sherman days to the sumlin days are way different.

That's a joke
Maybe, but not as big a joke as having him a 2-star.

People need to realize, these recruiting services don't make drastic re-ranks. They'll give big bumps during one re-evaluation period, and then give steady bumps each time. Rather than doing it in one fell swoop. Just like Kahlil Mckenzie on ESPN. They have him a big bump (I believe mid 80s to mid 30s overall), but he's still just the 6th-ranked DT despite winning d-line MVP at their nationally-televised camp. He'll go up more in the upcoming ranking, just not all at once.

"I just talked to Farrell and he said he's certainly going to be a player that they talk about being moved up even more to a 4-star. He said he doesn't know if he will because they still haven't been able to see all of his tools in a game since his sophomore year, but he will certainly be in the discussion. Just wanted to pass along."

So in Nationdom terms this means he went from awful to amazing in a month now that the only site that doesn't have him as a 4 star is about to bump him.
