'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

Right, the issue is, how badly they want to play QB. We risk them transferring if we try to switch them. Then we are out a QB/ a possible S/WR. If we need a wr or s more...then go get one. If we need a QB more, to get a QB... who can compete with Jennings.

I understand the Gibson is an amazing athlete, I would be happy to land him.

Here is my issue. We already have Jennings. But we need a 2nd QB this class, for sure now that RF left. So I wouldnt make Dormady wait to see what TG does.

I have no problem giving TG the last call, that is fine. But if Dormady wants to commit, you say "Hold on one second." Call TG, ask him straight up, "Yes or no, are you all in?". Then go from there.

It's just not worth the risk of losing Dormady to maybe land TG close to NSD. Not with AU and tOSU still in play.
I don't think Dormady will have to wait.

I don't even think you say hold a sec. You just say welcome and we are glad you are now a Vol.

Jennings has improved quite a bit according to VQ and many that actually watch him play.

Watched him play what? Some skeletons and a spring scrimmage?

Somehow, in the span of 30 days or so, Jennings went from future safety/linebacker to Quarterback who is so good we can shut down QB recruiting - without even playing in a game.

I agree and IMO that call to TG would probably be made. Maybe it was in a way as the staff could have very easily told Dormady to go home, sleep on it and let them know say today if he wanted to be a Vol. That gave the staff time to tell TG where he stood and they were prepared to take Quinten IF he still wanted to allow his recruitment to play out.

I honestly did not think the staff would take JJ's commitment as early as they did with the QBs we had on the board. The fact that they did told me he is a much better QB than I had thought. I'll roll with their opinion on it. :p

I think he's a great athlete that can project at several positions.

But I think this was more of a "we'll give you a shot at quarterback" than "you're our QB this class"

Play?

Or practice?

Because there's a big difference.

I don't see how all the concerns about Jennings being a QB can be dismissed by just a couple of carefully controlled practices.

I just like the fact that at least with him we hear he is actually practicing and attending/competing in camps.

So practice does not make you better? Got it. You can only get better in actual games.

Mechanics are better - from practice
Accuracy is better - from practice
Footwork is improved - from practice

MODS can we get this moved to Jenings' thread?

It's QB discussion. With several QBs still possible and only 1 spot left, it just stands to reason that the QB threads/discussion would spill over into each other. I would not let it get to you.

He's passionate about athletic QBs...and his blood sugar may be off.

Practice yes.

But to go from "he won't play QB, he'll be a safety" to "Screw TG, we've got Jennings as our QB of the future" based on a few non-game situation performances?

That's a stretch.

Well the discussion on Jennings had changed the last month also because of all the reports of him busting his ass. Someone that wants to be a QB that bad will find a way. And I actually watched the kid at The Arsenal in Neyland Saturday and could tell he had really put in work on his mechanics.

Welcome! You can put your shoes over there, drinks are over here... oh, yes, you have been here before, I forgot!

:)

How's it going? New job is keeping you too quiet on here.

Well other than working 60 hours at 1 job and picking up days at the other job, I'm also on the middle of a move... And trying to unpack with a 2 year old destroying stuff is proving to be difficult
