I'd be very surprised if Jennings spends more than few practices at QB once he gets here.
No one is going to turn away a Torrance Gibson.
When I look at both kids, I see very much the same type of QB. IMO it is impossible to say 1 gets a couple practices at QB and the other is a world beater.
Dormady commits and I would be shocked if CBJ still tried to add TG as a QB for the 20015 class. Yes, that would be turning him away.
I don't believe that Dormady to UT is a matter of waiting for TG. I believe Butch wants Dormady as his QB and TG as an athlete that can play at various positions and will find a spot for him.
Butch needs a QB who can accurately deliver the ball to his elite WRs and RBs downfield in open space. He can not afford to put an inaccurate passer under center who can only run the ball and make his elite WRs "split guards" on most every play. Thats how you stop recruiting elite talent at the WR position.
I'd be very surprised if Jennings spends more than few practices at QB once he gets here. Heck, a quick perusal of the Jennings thread shows that the QB talk picked up about the same time we lost Gentry to Texas. There was even a multi-page discussion as to whether or not he could beef up and play rush linebacker.

Well see.
I just find it funny that in the Jennings thread:
"Jennings is going to make a killer safety/linebacker/return man!"
Gentry commits to Texas.
"Jennings is going to make a killer quarterback!"
I'd be very surprised if CBJ slacked off recruiting Gibson at all until he actually makes a commit. You find room for a player like that.
Per Volatil, Jennings already looks to have improved a great deal since last season and IS working on being a better QB by going to camps and actually playing QB at them. Just sayin'....
Again, well see.
I never underestimate the capacity of fans to see only what they want to see.
Back to Dormady, if we land him, I don't think it'll effect Gibson at all. If TG was a pocket guy - probably. But you find room for a guy like that.
I think if we land Dormady then Gibson will probably look elsewhere, not UT. It would be hard to land 2 "elite" quarterbacks (IMO 3 elite quarterbacks) in one class.
Lets not forget. If we are taking Gibson and Jennings, thinking, "well if one doesn't work out, we'll switch positions"...These two guys have said they want to play QB. There is a very real possibility that whoever gets moved looks into transferring. That doesn't help us.
Not to mention, if we are looking at TG possibly switching to WR, we are better off going out and getting an actual receiver. Same with Jennings on D.
Since we already have Jennings, I think it's best to take Dormady.
Let Jennings improve and hope we get a dual threat monster.
If not, we have a serviceable passing QB.
I just don't see the point on gambling on two of the same QB. We already have Jennings, why get another Jennings?
I agree.
I just don't agree that, if by some chance TG decided he wanted to be a Vol, that CBJ would tell him no - just because we have Dormady/Jennings.
I try not to ride the recruiting rollercoaster - A recruit somehow becomes more or less talented based on his latest tweets and interviews and how much he says he likes us.
Jennings is the same player that he was before Gibson started playing footsie with Auburn and Gentry committed to Texas. If everyone was convinced he was going to be some super safety, then, he probably still is.
Both Jennings and Gibson are great athletes if they don't work out at QB they still likely can be great players at another position. They would almost be safer than any other commitment as far as risk.Lets not forget. That is the same thing I took away from the article as well. CBJ isn't going to wait much longer for TG to make up his mind. I don't know any school in his top group is going to wait until NSD for his decision.
Gibson will play WR if he goes to UT.
He lacks the polish to be polished passer in our offense and would be a sure way to loose out on the top WRs in the country who would go elsewhere because our QB can not deliver the ball consistently to the WRs in space. WRs want to catch the ball, not block on most pass plays because the QB lacks the ability to make the throw and is inclined to take off running.
You have to look at this from a realistic viewpoint.
Butch has been recruiting the top WRs in the nation. He intends to trow the ball down the field at least 45%-55% of the time. From what we have seen, his offense requires a QB who can make all of the throws, i.e. long outs, curls, deep ins, posts, flags, all of which require a decent and accurate arm.
To not recruit a QB who can make those throws accurately and constantly, is suicide to WR recruiting.
There is nothing in TG's film that shows that he has proven he can make the throws constantly and accurately. Whereas on the other hand Dormady is a much better passer, has the fundamentals to do so, and the athleticism to run the offense better than a running QB. Butch already has one running QB in this class and does not need to sign another running QB in this class.
