'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

Article make me feel as if he is waiting on something. I wonder if we could be pushing Gibson for an answer and moving on if we don't get it

This is exactly what I came away thinking as well. There is no doubt in my mind that Butch will tell TG before he leaves Knoxville that it is now or never. I think we will know something very soon.

I don't think anyone would refuse Gibson's commitment.

Maybe. A lot of folks felt we would not pass on Harrell or Johnson as well. It's not always about the *'s all the time. I get that it is with the fans, but the coaches don't always see things the same way.

If we win this, this would be a HUGE recruiting win. It would be Butch Stones going head to head with The Keebler Elf and outright winning a recruiting battle when there wasn't anything already in our favor. Would be one of the staff's biggest wins, regardless of stars IMO.

So, this is the 2nd year in a row we are fighting Bama for the same QB. They got Cornwell... let's see how this goes.

I got the complete opposite out of the article.

He has called off other recruiting trips and visits.

He stayed two extra days at UT (3 total days on his trip to UT) compared to one at Bama.

it sure sounds like his mind is pretty made up and is just waiting for the signal from someone to pull the trigger and make an official announcement with an acceptance of his commitment.

That is the same thing I took away from the article as well. CBJ isn't going to wait much longer for TG to make up his mind. I don't know any school in his top group is going to wait until NSD for his decision.

I don't believe that Dormady to UT is a matter of waiting for TG. I believe Butch wants Dormady as his QB and TG as an athlete that can play at various positions and will find a spot for him.

Butch needs a QB who can accurately deliver the ball to his elite WRs and RBs downfield in open space. He can not afford to put an inaccurate passer under center who can only run the ball and make his elite WRs "split guards" on most every play. Thats how you stop recruiting elite talent at the WR position.

We want Gibson as a QB. Dormady may pull the trigger before Gibson makes a decision though.

Gibson will play WR if he goes to UT.

He lacks the polish to be polished passer in our offense and would be a sure way to loose out on the top WRs in the country who would go elsewhere because our QB can not deliver the ball consistently to the WRs in space. WRs want to catch the ball, not block on most pass plays because the QB lacks the ability to make the throw and is inclined to take off running.

Gibson has all the leverage here.

He can pull a Pryor and wait until next March to sign, and no one will refuse him.

He knows it too.

Butch is doing the smart thing - get a QB you like. If Gibson wants to come, great! If not, we're ok.

If we get Dormady, Gibson goes from need to luxury. That's huge for this class.

3 QBs in a class? I just don't see it. Especially with it being a small class and a lot of great 2016 QBs already high on the Vols.

He may play WR wherever he ends up. IF he were to try and commit before Dormady, I do think CBJ takes his commitment as a QB and Dormady is headed to bama. Where JJ and TG would be QB wise when 2017 rolls around would be anyones guess. I do think Dobbs is likely the starter in 2015 and 2016.

Didn't know you lived in FL and watched him play.

You're talking out of your butt. I think Gibson likely doesn't land here but there is no doubt we want him as a QB. There is also no doubt that the best QB will play regardless. Now that may or may not be Gibson but he would get his shot here as a QB and he would be able to commit tomorrow if he chooses.

For the record I didn't like it at all that Gibson didn't make it in earlier, so I guess I'm restricted to being a Gibson "hater" whatever the heck that means.

LOL. I like how you speak so matter of factly about that. Maybe you should get one of your GM buddies to pass this info along to Butch, Urban Meyer and Gus Malzahn.

In this day and age of the interwebs, you don't really need to live close with all the film/evaluation breakdowns for just about every recruit in the country. Some may like what they see. Others will see it the complete opposite. There seem to be a lot of people on both sides of the fence with TG(random fans & people in the know).

The few public highlight films of high schoolers are not really a great evaluation of their talents. They get better daily and at this point that film is almost a year old.

And why do you think everyone wants your opinion on top of theirs? I know how this all works.

Yeah possibly. He is waiting on something to be saying it could be tomm, next wk, next mth but it could be tomm. Like you said it could just be waiting on butch,s boom signal. It sounds like he is ready.

I agree that the ones actually working on their QB skills daily will probably get better.

I'd be very surprised if Jennings spends more than few practices at QB once he gets here. Heck, a quick perusal of the Jennings thread shows that the QB talk picked up about the same time we lost Gentry to Texas. There was even a multi-page discussion as to whether or not he could beef up and play rush linebacker.

No one is going to turn away a Torrance Gibson.

You have to look at this from a realistic viewpoint.

Butch has been recruiting the top WRs in the nation. He intends to trow the ball down the field at least 45%-55% of the time. From what we have seen, his offense requires a QB who can make all of the throws, i.e. long outs, curls, deep ins, posts, flags, all of which require a decent and accurate arm.

To not recruit a QB who can make those throws accurately and constantly, is suicide to WR recruiting.

There is nothing in TG's film that shows that he has proven he can make the throws constantly and accurately. Whereas on the other hand Dormady is a much better passer, has the fundamentals to do so, and the athleticism to run the offense better than a running QB. Butch already has one running QB in this class and does not need to sign another running QB in this class.
