'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

If you google him and look at video tab there is some short clips from the NFTC Dallas event that looks like the ball jumps off his hand. Live arm on this one

Had he committed to bama, everyone would be pointing out that he is only a 2* recruit.

My point is, stars and evaluations shouldn't be so highly regarded, especially in an instance where the player has not seen live action in more than a full season at his level.

Regardless of who each of us favor as a QB recruit in this class, we should all realize what sort of recruiters C Butch Jones and his staff are. That's why we should all be extremely grateful to this kid for choosing to play for our Vols. If that's not enough, considering the National Champions for 3 of the past 5 years, who have a strong reputation as one of the best QB recruiting programs in the nation, had him as a top target may help.

Rivals hasnt fully evaluated him. IMO he will be a 5.7 3* on the next update. Then he will end up a 5.9 4* on NSD

No they wouldn't. At least not those of use who actually follow recruiting. A 2* is given to recruits that have not been evaluated. He isn't a 2*... he has not been evaluated by them.

I know, lets stockpile 5* WR's and 4*TE's, and find us a QB who likes to run all the time...seems legit...

this kid has offers from Big time schools and missing his entire JR year for a reason...
they have seen him work out and spin the ball...they must like what they see or UT,Bama and OK St wouldn't offer him...

I actually like Dormady better than I did Gentry. I put a lot of emphasis on the type of competition a recruit faces, especially a QB, and I was always very concerned about what Gentry faced. Dormady suits this offense better and he has put up much better stats against wayyyyy better competition than ZG.

If it's the kind of offense that required a QB to or if your offense is designed for that then sure. But UT's isnt so why force it? Do you think Ala would ever have their QB accounting for that, or Georgia's? When we have the receivers we have and Running backs we have why would we need our starter to do that and take more hits than he has to?

"From a QB perspective it is much harder to get a bead on this discussion. I have my ideas, but they may very well be bull****. I don't think that Brian Kelly has a prototypical quarterback. He has played with many different kinds of QB's and kicked ass with all of the them, even going all the way back to his Grand Valley State days. As a UC fan I shouldn't have to go much further then the 2008 season where he so famously used five different quarterbacks on the way to the Big East Championship to prove the point. Kelly is such a stickler for details and his system is so easy to teach at the basic level that it really doesn't matter who his QB is. At various points Kelly has mentioned that he prefers to have a dual threat running the show. But the reason for that is how hard it is to run out of the shotgun in modern College Football without an at least decent running threat from the QB to hold that backside end. For BK a dual threat is nice, but he doesn't really need one to make his system work because he doesn't really need a running game for his offense to work.

Jones on the hand does have an ideal QB type. I said it yesterday, and I will say it again now. Dan Lefevour is the guy for Jones offensive system. He is big, has a strong arm and though he is not a burner, he is eminently capable of defeating a defense with his legs."

If you look at the guys who Jones has recruited to the program as QB's in his two classes they all have elements of the Rust Belt Tebow in them. Munchie Legaux has a big arm and is an explosive athlete, in the 2010 class there are Stephen Weatherford and Patrick Coyne who are very much in that LeFevour mold. Patrick Coyne might be the best bet to reprise the Rust Belt Tebow motif if my hunches are correct. Coyne is a devastating runner who has an absolute cannon for an arm.

In the end the differences between Kelly and Jones and the representative offensive schemes and game plans isn't that big. There are some key differences in the design and execution of them, sure. But the real difference between Butch Jones and Brian Kelly might come down to one position. In my opinion Jones needs a very specific type of Quarterback to make his system really fire on all cylinders. He needs that mobile QB with a big arm to work out of the pocket in the passing game. Kelly on the other hand can make do with just about any QB.

So according to the article above CBJ needs a QB with a big arm who can flat out run the ball

I agree with your post except for the first sentence. I suspect that some who are mentioning his Rival's rating now would be pointing to his 247 rating and declaring that UT lost another great recruit to Saban and Alabama.

:dunno:

Maybe after his Cinci team was WAXED by a pocket passing UT QB in the SEC he re-thought that plan a bit.

patrick, a lot of what Jones is recruiting has changed. IN those articles that have been posted several times, it is noted that Jones's ideal WR is much shorter than the 6'3"-6'5" WRs he is recruiting at Tennessee. It appears that Jones is running his offense more in line with what Brian Kelly ran rather than what Jones himself ran. Noticed that he had his QBs make many more lounger passes than his QBs did at his previous stops.

When it's all said and done, this kid's gonna be at least a consensus top 150 player and top 10 overall QB. He's got all the tangibles to be a stud.

Patrick, give it a rest.

Not a chance ....

This is a forum for discussion. But I guess everyone is too busy high-fiving and "booming" to actually discuss how this QB fits into CBJ's offensive scheme. And despite what people are saying CBJ certainly has an offensive scheme that necessitates a QB that can beat you with his legs.

CBJ accepting Dormady's commitment tells me everything I need to know.

Oh yeah...Enjoy that crow down the road. :hi:
