“I was in shock, along with my mom and dad,” said the 6-foot-1, 187-pound Taylor. “They’re a top-notch program in SEC, which is the top conference in the country. So to get an offer from an SEC program like that – it caught me off-guard – but I was really excited.”

The more I read about this kid, the more I hope we can be in the running for him next year. Here are some quotes from an ESPN article on him.

Especially like the following quotes,

No reason to pay attention to Kentucky, right?

I left those in there just for you! In all seriousness tho, Stoops is doing a great job so far, but unless he wins some SEC games (which won't happen imo) the buzz will die down. In conclusion I'm not worried and no chance this kid goes to play there.

Wow! They have offered a private school kid in CVA for 2015 but havent offered a number of 2014 talent. Doesnt make sense. St Chris plays weak @$$ competition.

You dont just offer 1 yr at a time. Im pretty sure the coachs know what they are doing and who fits their system.

"I heard about Tennessee from one of my friends and I heard they had a football camp. I was just coming off my freshman year and my coaches said that they think I could have the potential to play D-1 football. I picked the Tennessee camp to be the camp I went to, and I ended up winning one of the team most valuable camp awards. They invited me down the following fall for the Missouri game.

"They have [stayed in contact through the coaching change] and that's how I found out about the junior day. They let me know they wanted me down there, so my parents and I decided to make the trip and it ended up being worth it."

"Considering I'd been on campus before, I was impressed with the campus itself but the main things were the new facilities. They showed us the new indoor field and like the 20,000-square foot weight room and the area dedicated to sports nutrition and the two underwater treadmills. The facilities dedicated to football really impressed me."

"My schedule is filling up pretty fast," Taylor explained. "I got invited to Florida State's junior day, and I couldn't make the trip but I will be in contact with the coaches. I've been invited to Alabama's spring game, and hopefully I will make it back to Tennessee to see a couple of their spring practices. And I'm going to do the Rivals VTO camp (April 13 in Richmond)."

Since last post, Iowa, Penn St, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Duke and Oklahoma State have offered. Went to JR Day at Alabama and VT.

He's ranked 48th on 247 and the #4 CB. Stud.

Taylor informed THI that he is planning a visit June 18th with Stanford and then will head to Vanderbilt and Tennessee in July. He will also be trying to visit Ohio State and Notre Dame over the summer also.

"I sat down with my parents and we started to dwindle the list down a little bit," said the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Taylor. "The list isn't final yet but I know we've cut some schools. There are still some schools that haven't offered yet that we are waiting on to see if they are interested once the season is over."

"I think I'm getting down to ten or fifteen right now," he said. "Fifteen would be the maximum number of schools that we would really want. Right now we're at Stanford, Ohio State, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Tennessee, South Carolina, Nebraska and Oklahoma State. That's not my official top ten because I want to wait to see what other offers might come in after the season. I'll probably make my official top ten or fifteen then."

"As far as schools I'm keeping an eye on, Florida State, Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama and LSU," Taylor said. "They haven't offered me yet but I want to see if they'll have interest in me."

"The school I talk to most is Stanford," he said. "It's a lot easier for us to stay in contact now that September 1 has passed. I know their coaches have come out to see me play."

From an ESPN article.

Who's rising: Garrett Taylor (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher’s) shot up the rankings, jumping more than 100 spots in the Junior 300 update. Previously at No. 180, Taylor is now No. 72 and a top-five prospect in the state of Virginia. Taylor has the size coaches covet at cornerback to duel with taller receivers as he stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 187 pounds. He is still fluid enough to run with receivers, and with his frame he is stout against the run when running backs are coming his way. His scouting report states he could be an early contributor. The problem for the ACC is that, despite offers from Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech, this physical corner looks to be headed to Stanford, which would be an ideal fit for both parties.

“Stanford,*Vanderbilt,*Tennessee,*Ohio State,*Clemson*and*Virginia Tech*will make the list,” he said. “Stanford, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Ohio State have really impressed me.”

“I’m going to try to visit Ohio State, Wisconsin, Stanford and USC,” he said. “I’ll also probably try to get to Clemson, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.”

6 foot + CB... Yes please. I'd love to have nothing but huge corners, go with the Seahawks blueprint.

"I'm still in the process of narrowing down my list," he explained. Some of the schools I'm interested in and the ones I'm not I'm letting know so I won't be keeping in contact with them.. That should be done pretty soon."

At this stage, Taylor does have several programs sticking out in his mind. "Yeah, in no particular order," he said. "Definitely Michigan State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Stanford and then probably Vandy a little bit. It's kind of interesting with the whole coaching change there. I just picked up Miami so I want to check them out too."

Taylor reiterated that he plans on taking things slowly when it comes to making a decision on his future, as he hopes to be able to make one pledge and one only.

"I won't make my decision until fall or winter or next year," he said. "I really want to take my time and make sure I'm making the right decision. I want to commit once and stick with that school throughout the rest of process."

Our most important states for recruiting, other than Tennessee of course, is GA, NC, and VA.

Let's steal the two Taylor's from VA. They are both high end prospects and both are at positions of need
