To be honest I had almost forgotten about Taylor with all the hype around Phillips, Kahlil, and Shy. Our DL recruiting is unreal

Darrell Taylor, Sr., left, and other family members cheer as Hopewell football player Darrell Taylor, Jr., signs his national letter of intent with Tennessee on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Hopewell High School.

When Darrell Taylor was a sophomore at Hopewell High School, he quit football. He was more interested in becoming a basketball player.

His body resembled a hoopster’s; he was 6-foot-2 and maybe 190 pounds. “My sophomore year, I thought I was a basketball player for some reason,” said Taylor.

But Hopewell coach Ricky Irby saw Taylor’s speed and his athleticism. He knew he had to persuade Taylor to get back on the football field.

Darrell Taylor was joined by his father, Darrell, Sr., and stepmom, Nakia Rosario, while he officially signed to play with the Tennessee Volunteers on Wednesday morning. He had a can of pineapples on display adding that he eats the fruit almost everyday, and is happy whenever he eats them.

Good grief, they make him sound like Forest Gump.

The next Maggitt

major difference. Curt came in at about 200 lbs as a true freshman and grew to be 238 while not losing any of his speed. This kid is already 228 lbs right now with 4.57 speed. I mean no disrespect to Curt cause he's been an amazing player for us and will have a great career in the NFL, but Darrell Taylor is on another level ATHLETICALLY.

he has a chance to be a Jevon Kearse type player once he gets on a college weight program. another thing most people don't know is he was a really good basketball player in high school and would lose alot of weight playing basketball. I could see him becoming about 250 lbs by his sophmore year. When that happens, SEC beware cause he's gonna wreck havoc.

IMO no one in this class has a higher ceiling than this kid. even the great Kahlil McKenzie.
