'15 VA DE Darrell Taylor (UT Signee 2/4/15)

From what I've seen in pretty sure that he is actually faster than 4.57 speed. I thought I was reported where he was running a sub 4.5.

Either way though this guy is a nasty athlete.

I thought I read as well that this kid runs in the 4.4-4.5 range. I also remember reading that athletically he is on par with Josh Sweat. That puts him in the realm of being an elite, freakish athlete.

you could be right. I only saw the 4.57 number on utfootballinsider. and that could be inaccurate.

if thats the case, why do you think he didn't get the hype Sweat did? was it because he didn't play alot of football?

This kid is just now getting serious about football. He quit his sophomore year to concentrate on basketball, but was talked into coming back. Sweat is a football player with a high football IQ and fairly advanced as far as pass rushing techniques and as a tackler. So far, Taylor has been an incredible athlete playing football. This is why his upside is so high. He has yet to be "coached up". He is one of those guys that has unlimited potential with S&C and proper coaching.

This is from memory so not 100% accurate, but I remember Sweat being something like 6'5" and 240 lbs when they did measurements at The Opening. Taylor is reportedly 6'4" and 230 lbs.

I might be wrong but I thought Sweat was quite a bit bigger than Taylor. Like 25-30lbs bigger and still in that 4.4-4.5 range.

Per hudl:

Sweat: 6'5"/240/4.46
Taylor: 6'4"/220/4.57

Seems like I remember reading Taylor had put on a little weight iirc. I'm not positive though.

I wonder if Sweat's injury has had an effect on his speed at all? Very similar athletically already. Both are freakish athletes and once Taylor gets coached up I would say they will be the exact same type player.

Taylor has as much upside as any kid in the entire '15 class IMO. Kid's gonna be a great one.

Watching the O&W game and saw Kyle Phillips on the sideline. Thought to myself "oh yea forgot he is gonna be available soon"

Then just about completely forgot about Taylor. What a class we signed.

Bump because no good reason at all.

I'm pretty sure I saw Taylor in the recruit visitor section during game telecast too. Dline is going to be a nightmare for opponents. Our secondary was already going to be really good. They are going to be even better with our pass rush

Good bump, I forgot about him too. I look forward to him and Kyle Phillips too. I really look forward to Mckenzie, but I do not think he has been forgotten about. :)

Not questioning the coaches decision at all. But I was wondering, what do you think this kid had/has that Ford didn't? Basically, what do you think made the coaches choose him over Ford? I don't follow recruiting or film watching very close and have always wondered this.

Taylor is a complete freak as an athlete. He runs a 4.55-4.6 40 as a 230 lb DE. He is athletic enough to play WR, but strong enough to bring down a RB. If he had spent more time playing football, he would have been a top 100 prospect, easy.

Watch and compare the film. Look at the offer lists. Ford has good offers but slightly lacking compared to Taylor's (also notably missing offers from UF and FSU despite being a Florida kid).
