'15 VA DE Darrell Taylor (UT Signee 2/4/15)

It depends on the player. The best programs have depth yet bring on players who are still able to contribute from Day 1, yet also bring in players who need to redshirt and still end up being all-conference and NFL draft picks.

Nobody has proved nothing yet, let's sit back and enjoy the ride. Many variable go into when a player leaves, it rarely plays out just like people think. And sometimes folks just want to stay 4, sometimes they are ready to leave. To hard to say right now, until the games are played. Some of these guys folks are talking about haven't even played their first game of college and they are already trying to push them out the door. GO VOLS!!!

I don't disagree with what you are saying here. I disagree with the logic you are using. What has McKenzie proven that Richmond hasn't?

Pretty much what all the other guys have said. McKenzie absolutely dominated essentially every camp he attended. Richmond, not so much. I technically only added him as a direct comparison to Richmond. The other guys have definitely already proven themselves on Saturdays.

I really disagree here. Teams with great depth redshirt

We have not been red shirting much because if the lack of talent. I would expect an opposite swing

The part that you aren't seeing is the fact that elite talent for the most part, doesn't want to be in college more than 3 years, 4 max. They aren't trying to RS. Teams like Vandy need to RS. Elite talent doesn't RS very often. When I say RS, maybe I should say there aren't a ton of elite RS seniors on championship caliber rosters. Sure there are some, but it isn't expected of a high 4 star or 5 start prospect to be around for 5 years.

I agree with this. I just think as the players coming into the program become more elite, the 5 year guys will be fewer and farther in between. Not that there will not be any.

Perhaps. Sometimes though that extra year of college makes all the difference. It could mean the difference between a 3 year career or a 10 year career at the next level.

I support redshirting

I think Hurd, Barnett, and McKenzie are much better examples of surefire 3 year guys. Richmond hasn't proven to be at their level of a sure thing, yet. He could, but he's got a lot to prove still.

DJ Humpries from the University of Florida just got drafted in the 1st round last night eventhough he had a dissapointing 3 years in Gainesville (given his consensus 5 star status as a recruit). He was told by the NFL to not enter the draft this year and stay another year. He said no and came out anyway. He ended up getting drafted in the 1st round despite a myraid of red flags pertaining to his motor, production, and strength.

Why did the NFL draft him so high? Because he's 6'5" 300lbs and has the feet to play LT. At the end of the day, his physical attributes were too enticing and he played a position of high need where there are few men who are 6'5" 300lbs with feet to play the left tackle position.

Drew Richmond is in the same boat. If you've watched any of his film, you would see that this kid has SPECIAL feet for a man his size. He's the protypical LT in the NFL based on physical measureables RIGHT NOW. He has a long way to go, but simply based on the physical attributes NFL teams salivate for, he has it. Unless he gets injured and completely busts, I guarantee you he's a 3 and out prospect. There are not many humans out there who have his type of agility and feet at 6'5" 320lbs.

not when you recruit elite prospects. sure the florida state's and alabama's of the world reshirt some of their prospects. but even with the tremendous depth they've created from having perrenial top 5 recruiting classes, they still have several freshmen play significant roles each year simply because they are STUDS.

A'shawn Robinson was pretty much an immediate starter at DT for Alabama eventhough they always have tons of studs on the d-line that have been there 3-4 years. Jalen Ramsey was a immediate starter at DB for Florida state eventhough they have had tons of NFL type players in that secondary. Derrick Henry, Cam Robinson, Amari Cooper, TJ Yeldon, and so on.

At the end of the day, when you're recruiting at the level we are, you'll always get a handful of studs who are too good to redshirt and keep off the field. Even as true freshmen, they'll be much better than anyone in front of them. I have a feeling that'll be the case for a number of guys in our 2015 class. Kahlil McKenzie, Drew Richmond, and Kyle Phillips might just be too good to keep off the field as true freshmen. Not because we are desperate.

"Darrel Taylor has been an athletic freak."

- Hubbs

This is huge coming from Hubbs. He is rarely openly this optimistic. The last player I can remember a statement like that from an athletic standpoint was CP. Not saying he will have that kind of impact

They have always hyped up new players...

He Is more reserved with recruiting info

They've hyped them but the language is a bit different when talking about KM and DT. For instance Sheriron Jones is typical sunshine banter ("wowed", "turning heads") but I don't recall many "athletic freak" comments from Hubbs or making it a point to over stress the "strength" and agility" of KM.

These are CP Freakio-ish comments. Drink it up and kick back and enjoy, summer is looooooooong.

When you watch his SR highlights it's really amazing how we are recruiting at such a high level that he isn't more talked about when talking the 2015 class. A DE with WR speed. It really is going to be unfair for OTs playing us. Maggitt, Weathered, Barnett, Phillips, Taylor, Vereen, Smith and Lewis just constantly coming at you with fresh legs.

Imagine Taylor in the S&C program for a year or two; should be able to add weight and keep that speed = Improved Freak. Things are headed in the right direction.

Seems like we went a decade without an elite pass rusher and now we have a roster full of them.
