'15 VA OL Matthew Burrell

I keep thinking Butch has some master plan that one day we'll think "oh, I see why he did that" but now I keep thinking his master plan is playing all these kids so he can tell the recruits "see you can play as a freshman here".

His plan right now is to red shirt Blair and Dobbs. Next year our OL will be better and yes Blair will be starting.

Next year talent wise we will be as good as any team in the SEC and better than most in the East. This year we are close, but not as good talent wise as 7 of the teams we face.

Remember for Ole Miss this is year 3 of their rebuilding.

I admire your optimism but I don't see this line improving that much next year. I mean they are bad, really bad. And QB is a huge question mark. I don't see next year being much better. I am tempering my expectations for this and next year.

Butch gets no pass on not having a red shirt sophomore or redshirt junior ready to push this offense all with 3 years in system

I disagree. The talent on the line in the upper classes is putrid. Besides marcus Jackson none of these guys would be on the field for anyone else in the sec period. Butch guys are true fresh one of who is playing out of position.

We'll, it's impossible for any of Butch's recruits to be a redshirt sophmore. Then Dools didn't get any OL in 2012. So, those would be RSophs right now. From the 2011 class, Tiny has already left, Jackson, Kerbeyson, and Crowder are starting.

You gotta give Butch more than 1 and a 1/2 years. The O Line will get better with experience, and we have Jones, Boulwere, Stewart, Hall, maybe Jackson, and hopefully 1 or 2 more coming in next season. Robertson and Thomas will continue developing and be very good players IMO. Blair will hopefully improve along with Raulerson.

The line will be better, just be patient. Maybe I'm just too patient since I've never seen a good UT team, but I am hopeful for our future.

Well said. What gets me is the hate towards Mike Baj. and CBJ? They proved last year that this system works in terms of running the ball when the o-line is good. People are so dogmatic that they fail to accept anything that goes against the belief that all of this is Mike Baj. and CBJ's fault. You want to blame a coach blame Mahoney. The verdict is still out on whether he can cut it here in terms of recruiting and coaching, and to make matters worse we let a great o-line coach in Pittman leave. That's how life goes when you hire a new coach. You have to let him bring in his guys that he's had success with. This offense, or lack there of, can not be solely put on the shoulders of Mike Baj. This isn't his o-line. He's simply playing with what he was given.

If Pittman stays we keep Skipper, and the previous staff just blew it with Jelks. Add those two to your roster and things are a lot different.

Just any quality OL in the 2012 would have helped

Sorry guys let me be clear. I am speaking from qb play only and yes our oline has a ton of work thx to dooley. One position that cannot be fixed in 2 years unless the players are elite

So Peterman is not a re shirt sophomore? I realize how long butch has been here. I'm not talking about oline I'm speaking about qb play

Peterman was a Dooley recruit. He came in the 2012 class.

The only 2 QB's Butch has signed are Dobbs and Ferguson.

I'm not a fire everyone guy or a nega-VOL, and I'm not even saying CJB isn't a good OC, but he hasn't helped out either. He's yet to follow through on what Butch mentioned about tailoring to the talent you have. He's still calling plays for Cincinnati...

I remember when he said that. Oh well. I guess he really wants to get his system in place whatever the cost.

Listen, when your entire passing gameplan revolves around quick swing passes, bubble screens, quick hitches, and slants, and you STILL give up 6 sacks (and that isn't an aberration), you have a big problem. To the people who claim that we just don't have good linemen... take the blinders off. Yea, other teams probably have better linemen, but the first sentence above indicates a little more than just bad talent. It indicates poor coaching and play calling. Will it get better? Well, our talent certainly will, but the question becomes... if we have already determined that we have a coaching and talent problem, then why don't we solve the part of that equation that we can right now? Why should we take a wait and see approach when we're getting such terrible results? Are you really asking me to believe that our linemen (most of whom were recruited by legitimate D1 power conference teams) just aren't capable of playing football at this level? I don't buy it.

Wish Jelks would just bail on Vandy and come home.

I don't care what he said about us before. I said the same stuff about Dooley too.

The problem with your statement is that for the most part, the entire OL has to play well for the play to be successful. You can't have just a couple of good linemen, and one guy missing a block can result in a sack. I was at the UF game, so I can't speak to who played well or bad. In the OU game, Robertson and Thomas were both missing blocks and not even coming close. They are true freshmen. I have seen Kerbyson whiff. So, if we only have 2-3 competent ones, it still doesn't work, and sacks still come in handfuls. Additionally, the fumble by Worley was a corner blitz, and that is on the QB. He has to read that, and make a hot read. I thought the gameplan for short passes was good. I did not like the 2nd and 5 drop back where Worley fumbled, but again, Worley has to see it. It's not any one problem. It's a mix of problems.

As I said I know how long he's been here. My point is he is not a true freshmen. He is year 2 in this system year 3 next year. So no excuses. He was also very heavily recruited by this staff to Cincinnati. There are no excuses for qb next year period. They also recruited Dobbs stop making excuses. Now the oline yeah I agree can't totally put this on them. They need time here. And I'm not saying we have win sec next year I'm saying g time take next step forward which is finding a way to win

I'll agree about QBs. Peterman just can't start in the SEC. That has been shown. The jury is still out on Dobbs as he was only a freshman when he played last year. I really like the Dormady kid along with Jennings. I think we will be improved by the end of the season. I believe we go 6-6. If we are not back by 2016, the seat should be hot.
