'15 VA OL Matthew Burrell

All I know is that Kentucky, as a football team, is getting better. Tennessee is getting worse, despite having 4 star football players at every position. Here's an idea... What about moving the pocket on passing downs? It worked quite well for Crompton.

I'm just going to be blunt, no! Worley is horrible on roll out plays, or any other plays that involve him moving out of the pocket. He just makes poor decisions out of the pocket.

Exactly. His football IQ drops 50 points when he leaves the pocket looking to throw.

Well damn. We're seriously running out of options at this point.

We don't have any options brother with our current o-line and QB situation. Don't worry though, this won't stop some DAs coming on here stating Kentucky just about beat the number 1 team while also giving up 7 sacks. Don't be fooled! The difference is, they have an unbelievable QB, and in college, you live and die by your QB. KY QB has 1st round talent. He's the real deal. He can run and pass. He's the element we lack on offense. That's the difference between us and KY. It's not coaching, it's talent, and they have more of it where it counts the most.

Thanks. Lately its looking like PSU, OSU and us right? I'm assuming we are in line for an OV. Would be big to go on a run now and have him on campus maybe for Mizzou or something like that.

IMO UT is probably 3rd or 4th for Burrell. I think it's Richmond or nothing left at OL for our Vols for 2015.

I think they'll take 2 if they can land their top targets. I love how most of the class is in place and they can really focus on closing strong and setting up for 2016+.

i sure do hope we get Burrell. IMO he is one of the best OT on that list. In his video he looks to have the fastest feet.

Burrell come be a VFL and rebuild this team

At this point you've become an easy target for everyone. I realize that. You realize that. I don't want to pile on but I don't necessarily agree with you. My guess is we sign one of Richmond, Allen or Burrell. I do not think we go empty handed with those three

No way are we 3rd or 4th for Burrell. The race is alot closer than that. Dont be surprised if we pull this out on NSD. I would watch this one really close from here on out

He certainly has great feet, that is why I wouldn't rule him out as an OT completely. And no way TN would turn him down regardless of other OLineman on the board. They aren't in a position to turn down a national top 100Offensive Lineman.

I wonder if penn at is his new leader based on his twitter Franklin love... You know they were bashing some vols

This is hopelessly negative, Leb. It's like you don't even know you're doing it half the time.

We are still working on Sweet (as I recall, he visited for the Bama game). Richmond is listening to the Vols, Pat Allen as well. Burrell has stated that he really loves Coach Jones and has a strong relationship with some of the commits already, plus some analysts think we've got a lot of momentum right now;

"It seems like Tennessee has all the momentum, but Ohio State and Florida State are very much in the picture.
-Adam Friedman, 10/22

Four-star offensive lineman Matthew Burrell Jr. was seen as a lock to Ohio State by some people not too long ago. Then Florida State crept into the picture, and now a third school is making a serious run. Butch Jones and Tennessee have made up a ton of ground since the season started, and made a great impression during his official visit earlier this month. Jones has made Virginia a recruiting priority and it definitely seems to be paying off as recruits are listening. Burrell is scheduled to take an official visit to Penn State this weekend for their game against Ohio State, but at this point it's the Buckeyes, Seminoles and Vols, with Tennessee definitely trending upward.

-Mike Farrell, 10/22

Then on 10/15 Burrell tells 247 that Tennessee, OSU, & FSU are tied after saying "Tennessee was just what he was looking for and felt like home". A couple weeks prior to that he said OSU led with FSU, PSU following his top 3 - then he mentioned Tennessee with the others he was considering. Still a long way to go, but it's clear here that we've got some momentum - so there is no reason to be a negative nancy and say we're 3rd or 4th. We get that you have an opinion dude,it's just you throw your opinion around like **** until it finally sticks. It gets old.

Alright my spiel is up, feel free to roast me back. Hope we can all be Vol fans in peace....but maybe with a little more positivity!

All of those guys have CB predictions. How many have switched them to Tennessee? As my previous posts mention, none of them have. Is being 3rd or 4th really negative? IMO it's my opinion of what reality is at this point. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, it's just my feeling on it. Kid has a huge offer list. IMO being 3rd or 4th is not all that bad. Especially considering he did not think enough of UT to visit at any point on his own dime.

I don't always use "reality" as to my reasoning. At times I'm a star gazer and sipping the koolaid like the next guy. In this case, what I see tells me the fans are choosing to ignore some pretty big indicators. Anything can happen and God knows we could use all the OL help we can get. I just don't see this one going our way, at least at this stage in the game.

I don't know about the "big indicators" Leb. I've always operated under the presumption that if we can get a kid on campus for an official visit and the coaches really put the work in to make it special, then we can compete with anyone in the country and really, really make them take a long hard look at the program. We did that with Burrell - just like we've come to expect from an OV at TN. You'll see we weren't really on his top 3 radar and OSU was his "leader" then coming out of the OV his top 3 of FSU, UT, & OSU were tied (lets be "realistic" and take that at face value). Tennessee sets the bar very high with OVs and in-homes which are where your biggest opportunity comes to knock the socks of the kid and his family and win them over.

His "top list" after the PSU OV will tell a lot, but I beg to differ on us being third or fourth for Burrell. We've got this great thing in our bag called "momentum" going for us, let's hope it doesn't run out just yet!

Really hope we get this guy. I think he's best suited to play OG but that doesn't make him any less of a need. You win in the trenches and we need as many quality lineman as we can get. Just look at who Alabama has committed as just OGs, like 3 of the top 10 alone. We definitely need OTs but we need OGs as well. My dream finish would be to land Burrell, Richmond, and one more OT. We need O-lineman more than any other position right now, take whoever we can and let the numbers work themselves out. We can afford to lose some guys at other positions but we can't afford to miss altogether on the O-line.

This is terrible analysis. If you want to debate whether Burrell is a OG or an OT at the next level, that is a good question. There is a lot of interesting debate about that aspect. Burrell displays amazing feet and quickness, but he plays OG in HS, he isn't as tall and as long armed as the prototypical OT"s are, but he shows very good athleticism and skill that does make many wonder if he could in fact be a very good RT....

If you believe he is an OG, all the way, which you have stated, then we do not need another OG....and OG is not a problem on the current roster, nor is it a position of need in this class.

Zach Stewart is one hell of an OG prospect. Venzelle Boulware is one hell of an OG prospect. Jack Jones like Burrell could be a great OG prospect but is intriguing and athletic enough on film to make you think he could be a very good RT as well. Same goes for Chance Hall. He at the very least will be a good OG prospect, but has the frame and feet that projects nicely to an OT.

Lets also talk about the current roster. We currently have Jashon Robertson, Marcus Jackson for another year, Dylan Weisman, Austin Sanders, Kyler Kerbyson that are all OG's. We have many reports that say Charles Mosely will end up being a very good OG. We also have reports saying Mike Sawyers may end up at OG as well, if he doesn't improve at DT. So again, that puts us at 10-12 OG types on the roster next year...... It boggles my mind that because we have had some O-line issues this year, that taking another OG is going to somehow address the current issue for the future. I can assure you, our OG play has not been the issue....having OG's, walk-on's and true freshman that are suited for C and OG that are playing OT is the problem.

No way we take another OG prospect if that is what our staff believes he projects at. I believe that Burrell is a very good RT prospect, and if our coaches believe that which i'm pretty sure they do, then yes you take him and don't bat an eye. If you think any player left on our board no matter their "ranking" at OG is a take for us still, you are freaking crazy.
