'15 VA OT Austin Clark

Farrell just said he thinks if he commits soon it would be to South Carolina.

We may have slow played/moved on from this one too.

Staff is taking some big risks with this class, but I like it. You don't become a SEC/National Champion contender by taking the early easy recruits. We have to go toe to toe with the big dogs for the best of the best.

Especially with a small class this year.

What's wrong With taking a very solid guard. If Richmond commits then We're good at the tackle position right?

I doubt the staff is sitting around a table considering what Rivals or Scout ranks or rates a recruit before deciding if they want them in Orange. JMO

Austin Clark is pretty big time IMO. if he can play at South Carolina, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Miami, Penn State then hes probably pretty big time himself.

Okay thanks, I was hoping that staff wasn't sitting around a table wasting time looking at the recruiting rankings before they decide to take this young man's commitment. Man, I was worried there for a minute.

My comment was in reference to the "his stock falling" comments. It doesn't appear that his stock has dropped at all and this young man is a very solid OT.

I may have missed it if it were the case with this kid having his stock dropped. I thought that was Sterling Johnson and I think fans may be using the idea as a crutch at least in their mind when the staff passes on kids with a lot of *'s by their name.

It all comes down to the numbers. The sooner people accept this mindset the quicker they will enjoy recruiting for the 2015 class. :)

Yesterday from Fortenberry...

It will be interesting to see what happens. As we've said in the past, his stock somewhat fell this fall with some people.

I think the biggest thing with Clark, after seeing him multiple times, is just what is he?

He's not a left tackle in college, and I really wonder if he's a right tackle either. So, that leaves him at guard and I think he has potential there but Tennessee, in a limited scholarship year, really needs some tackle bodies.

The more I see and watch Dylan Jackson's development the more I think he has a really good shot at sticking on the d-line and growing into a 6-6, 270-pound defensive end. I think that means they need to really connect on another tackle for sure if not two more.

I'm sure Tennessee wants to take five offensive linemen after only signing three last year.

Today on Clark...

I could see Clark maybe being a RT, but he may ultimately be a guard in college.

Sounds like the staff probably sees Clark as a Guard and they seem to be more focused on landing a couple more tackles in '14. And if they do take another Guard, Clark might be down the board some.

There was talk that he had some bad performances at some camps. Some analysts were saying he didn't look like he had the skill set to play either tackle position and would end up as a guard in college (can't remember who it was that made the comments). I think that's where the talk about his stock dropping came from. I'm not sure if that's what you're wondering or not, the first part of your post was a little unclear to me.

I just did not recall reading anything about his stock dropping. Could be the case as I have not followed his recruitment as closely as some others. I have felt for a while it was Richmond and that's it on the OL at least for now. Dec/Jan, maybe they try and or can take another.

The quotes are in this thread somewhere. I'm too lazy to try to find them but they were posted fairly recently.

Wow. Didn't could barely get near a 5.9 4 star, and some people think CBJ may have this one down on his board a bit. That's insane.

Edit: I phone autocorrect Dooley to didn't.

So is this guy's game similar to Jack Jones's at all? From reading the past few pages it seems like they could both have similar roles. I'd almost rather shoot for two true left tackles. Seems like that's the thinnest position on the team. Maybe we'll see more LT's pop up on the board after Richmond commits (implying to us of course)

He's probably more in the Zach Stewart mold. Based on size at least.

If zack stewart and lovegood are a take then Austin Clark is a no brainer take. No effin brainer lads

Stewart is a beast. Austin is good too, but a tweener. Stewart is a better fit at guard and we are apparently in on better guard prospects than Clark
