'15 VA OT Austin Clark

Rockbridge County High School rising senior offensive lineman Austin Clark enjoyed his visit to Virginia Tech on Tuesday, the last of his trips to Blacksburg before he makes a verbal commitment.

"It was great, I had an awesome time," the 6-foot-6 tackle said. "The main purpose was to sit down and talk with Coach Searels and Coach Beamer."

The three talked about a need for an offensive tackle in Clark's recruiting class. The proposition of early playing time — something the 295-pounder cited last Feb. as a possible key in his decision — piqued his interest again durring his latest visit.

"Coach Searels is a great guy and a great coach," Clark said. "He tells you how it is and he knows his stuff.

"I'm really happy with the visit. . . .He definitely made it clear they need tackles."

Clark is tight-lipped about his possible destination. He wants to focus on his senior season and will make his decision next Thursday.

"I'm going to narrow down my top seven to four this weekend," he said. "I'll take the top four into June 12."

Many pundits believe Tech, Tennessee, and South Carolina are the frontrunners to earn his verbal commitment.

UVa., Clemson, Ohio State and Penn State are also in the mix.

While he won't reveal much, Clark offered his thoughts on Tech's standing in the race for the top four.

"I'd say they have a really good shot at it," he said.

Clark visited South Carolina last weekend and Tennessee on Wednesday.

“That was really important to me as far as getting to know him better as a coach,” Clark said. “It was definitely a good day. I got to see a little bit more of Columbia than I did on my last visit. The visit pretty much answered all the questions I had left. His main message to me was I was a top priority for them and they want me to come and man one of the tackle spots for them.”

Clark did not meet with Steve Spurrier who was out of town after attending the SEC meetings in Florida earlier in the week.

Clark plans to narrow his list to four next weekend and the visit to USC appears to have boosted their chances of making the final four.

“They have a really good chance of making it,” Clark said. “I pretty much answered any questions I had left.” He plans to major in business management and he was given plenty of information about the USC business school.

Clark said he remains in touch with his recruiters from the other schools as well. He will announce his decision during the 6:00 PM newscast on June 12th on the local TV station.

It does not sound like he was WOWed at USCjr.

Ya'll have no clue, absolutely no clue. Let me put it easily understood terms. USA = Tennessee football. I root for USA/Tennessee football over every single other team all day. Mexico is like Bama. Conference rivals that I hate and will always root against, no matter what. Germany is like Illinois. I have a connection to them and will root for them UNLESS they play USA/Tennessee. Would I root for Illinois to beat Tennessee in football, absolutely not. Would I root for Germany to beat USA, absolutely not. Am I allowed to root for Illinois when they aren't playing Tennessee without it equating to rooting for Bama? Absolutely.

/ Rant.

You a fascist bro?

Pretty big turnoff for a recruit that the head coach can't be there to meet you. Probably still on vacation in Destin playing golf every day.

I was trying to get it back to football. I don't know why people gotta talk all that BS in player threads.

"Tennessee had several visitors in this week, including offensive lineman Austin Clark. From talking to several people close to his recruitment South Carolina had some good momentum after he visited the Gamecocks last weekend. But, the Tennessee visit seems to have slowed down that momentum and the Vols are once again a very real factor there."

Think Spurrier took the time to record a video for Austin like Butch did last year when he was out of town? My guess is no.

Who was that, Raulerson?
