They never said they weren't cheering for America, silly. Of course they will cheer for America, but in International play it is permissible to have respect for and/or cheer for other countries when your own country has very little real possibility of winning the cup. JMO

Otherwise it's like cheering for Bama just because they're in the SEC and they actually have a shot at winning the title. Boooo!

Once America is booted from the cup that will probably be the end of my soccer fandom until 2018. Other than if my kids will be playing it. Then a dad's gotta do what a dad's gotta do

No, it is far and away very different than cheering for Bama because they are in the SEC. Soccer is a GLOBAL sport. Many many players play their club level soccer outside of the country they are from,especially the premier players in the world. I have several teams and players that I am a fan of for different reasons. I cheer different ones on at different times depending on the fixture. This is, I would think, normal behavior for anyone that knows anything about soccer on the International and League level.

I honestly do not think I have ever watched more than 60 seconds of a soccer match. And that 60 seconds was attributed to me dropping the tv remote between the sofa and the end table before I could quickly change the channel.

This is absolutely wrong on every level. Shame on you. This is essentially saying it is ok to root for Bama because Tennessee has no shot at winning a NC this year. I mean, c'mon man.

Ya'll have no clue, absolutely no clue. Let me put it easily understood terms. USA = Tennessee football. I root for USA/Tennessee football over every single other team all day. Mexico is like Bama. Conference rivals that I hate and will always root against, no matter what. Germany is like Illinois. I have a connection to them and will root for them UNLESS they play USA/Tennessee. Would I root for Illinois to beat Tennessee in football, absolutely not. Would I root for Germany to beat USA, absolutely not. Am I allowed to root for Illinois when they aren't playing Tennessee without it equating to rooting for Bama? Absolutely.
