'15 VA OT Austin Clark

95% of the CB's have him a Vol. JC Shurburtt bucked the trend today and predicted VaTech. Kind of surprised there are 0 CB's for USCe. Either he is a Vol or there will be a mass CB movement over the next 48HRS or so.

IMO he is headed elsewhere.

Don't know why everybody is talking about camp performance. Camps are not set up for OL to succeed. If a DT or DE are coming at you full bore knowing there is no chance of a run and you don't have pad for leverage you will get beat. I may be wrong but I don't usually hear about OLs killing it at camps.

Also a G/C may not always take on a DE unless a stunt is on

yep

Btw, speed backs always dominate these camps in shorts and a t shirt. its set up for them.

Quality OL kids can usually do well in a camp scene. Go watch some of Zach Stewarts or Drew Richmonds camp performances on youtube. The best of the best will usually shine.

Drew Richmond did well in this last one but he didnt look good at the Birmingham camp a couple months ago. I remember reading about it. It happens.

They had Clark lining up out of position also. They had him at LT during the camp. He'll be a G when he gets to the college level, I would presume.

If Butch sent his mother a Mother's Day card, then I would think he would be a take.

Wasn't that someone else?

I think that is overblown somewhat. The truly top OT's usually still standout at these camps. See Drew Richmond at the very same camp. I think the fact that he's probably an OG instead of an OT at the next level drops his value some as a prospect and it goes along with what Paul on VQ and Callahan on 247 have been saying for a while, the staff is concerned he cant play OT at the next level.

UT a contender here?

"I don't know. I had a source told me South Carolina is still the team to beat heading into the week but not to sleep on Virginia Tech at all. I haven't heard any Tennessee chatter the last 48 hours."

-Fortenberry

Hope he chooses VT.

I've read on a couple other boards that Clark has been told there is no room at UT by our coaches and he will have to choose another school

That's been the general consensus for a long time until his recent surprise visit. They must be very confident about Richmond and one other.

"Lexington (Va.) Rockbridge County Top247 offensive tackle Austin Clark has long been considered a Tennessee lean, and Vols insider Ryan Callahan recently added his prediction for UT heading into Thursday’s decision. With that being said, Virginia Tech has picked up a few forecasts and could keep the touted in-state talent home. Eighty percent of the 20 forecasts currently read for Tennessee" (247Sports Crystal Ball Trends In The SEC).

If true, then the coaching staff must be super confident in what's left on the board. Turning away a consensus top 100 player in June, WOW.
