'15 VA WR Alvin Harper Jr

I was a big TSR fan till they shut their doors. Then I heard about Basilio. That's who I have been listening to now and the swain event. Either a good source?

Swain is probably more dependable than Basilio for inside info given his insight into the behind the scenes stuff as a person with VFL access. However, I miss the Ainge show if for no other reason than his unabashed homerism and ability to break down film/highlight tape. Love him or hate him, I thought Ainge was entertaining.

Im a big fan of his show, but the majority of his inside sources left with Kiffin. The original X was a member of the coaching staff at the time so he was THE guy during that time period. Hes pretty solid with everything except recruiting.

They just take him off the air or was it his choice? Just curious as I don't live in the area.

It's my understanding that the station was either bought out or repurposed into an oldies station. I don't know if Ainge had other radio opportunities, but he is now out of the radio business (aside from his once a week appearances on Swain's show...he's still doing those right? I haven't listened in a while). I believe he's now a corporate line salesman for Cellular Sales out of Knoxville.

Oh wow. Had no idea. Thank you, sir.

Not a problem. I believe it was difficult for their sponsors to track their listener-base, given that the majority of their listenership was based around an app instead of the actual radio frequency (a rather weak frequency at that), so it was difficult to maintain advertising dollars, when the sponsors had no way to ensure their investments were worthwhile.

Acdg to Basilio, Lovie Smith was going to be our HC a few years back. He was on a plane headed to Knoxville but an evil dragon intercepted the airplane before it could land.

I totally agree. The commercials were repetitive but hey and Jay bay were honest and hilarious early in the mornings.

He clearly noted it was speculation and he was just putting everything that he was hearing out there. #stopbashingbasilio

Here's the context from his blog:

"Getting conflicting information on Cecil Cherry Jr that I wanted to bring to your attention. Big Will, (AKA Guillermo Grande) called in yesterday and said that he knew for a fact that Cecil Cherry was not committed over but was steered away from the Vols by former Vol all time great Alvin Harper Sr. Will cited Internet rants by a furious Harper back in the summer that Tennessee refused to offer his son. Apparently he trashed the coaching staff. For the record, I never saw any of this. The story goes that Alvin is upset that his son hasn't been offered a scholarship by UT and let it be known even in cyberspace. I argued with Will going on the information 'X' provided me that along with Vol Colonel and a few others. Well, later in the day Vol Colonel along with a couple other sources dug into this for me and came back with a similar narrative that backed up Big Will. So, today I don't know what to believe. Did Tennessee recruit over Cecil Cherry Jr and throw him back into the recruiting pool. Or is Alvin Harper Sr. upset enough that Jr didn't get a scholarship to poison the well with Tennessee on Cherry? Colonel said he thinks there's a move afoot for Harper to package his son with Cherry (they're good friends) to some place like Arizona State."

Now this is some crazy ish right here if true.

The part about Alvin Sr going nutso online about Jr not getting an offer is completely true. I remember him ranting back in the summer about how Jr was the best wr at camp, made the other kids look bad, would be a top ranked wr for 2015 and they didnt offer him. And bashed a few other legacies that got offered.

Cant comment on the rest of it because ive never heard the rest if it.

It must be frustrating being a radio host in this market because it never fails... People hear a caller say something and then it gets repeated by that person that the radio host is the one who said it.

It's happened again with this Alvin Harper Sr. situation involving Cecil Cherry. Tony was not the one who said it, a caller to Tony's show named "Big Will" did. SMH...

Swain more or less confirmed most of this on his radio show this morning. He did not mention a package deal, but did go into detail regarding Alvin Harper, Sr. steering Cherry away from Tennessee because he was mad at the staff here for not offering his son. Swain said that he has known about this a little while, and only decided to talk about it after Basilio put it out yesterday. It is really a bizarre situation, to say the least. Swain said that Harper should have handled it with more class, comparing how he handled it to how J J McClesky handled it when his son was not offered.

Also, Ainge does still come on the show on Monday mornings to do game analysis. TSR was sold and now I believe that Swain and Hooker both buy their own time, much like Basilio always has done. I really enjoy Jayson's show. He does have good information, he has contacts within the program. He also does work at camps throughout the year, so he has pretty good information on the talent level of prospects.

So is Alvin Jr?....a top ranked wr?....for 2015?

You just cant give a spot up because his dad was a good player, Alvin should know that, let him walk on and earn it, we are trying to become elite again we just cant give them up to every Jo Blow.

I went back and read what Sr. had written over the summer after Jr. camped..People on here (and Basillio's peeps) made it sound more harsh than it really was using words like "spouting off", "rant", and "furious".When I read it, it sounded more disappointed than mad. What father wouldn't be disappointed? Cut him some slack

I understand Alvin Sr.'s angst. However, I hope as my kids get older that I am a bit more realistic about their skill/talent/intellect than most parents. It seems today's parent thinks their kid is the best at everything...in the end I think it sets the kid up to fail because they have a false sense of reality.

Basillio is a hack. Don't know if I'd put a lot of stock into much of what he says.

Basillio didn't "say" it. A caller said it and Basillio had a couple of his guys he relies on check into it. He was repeating what he was told. He made that pretty clear. Also, looks like Jason Swain has affirmed these thoughts.
