How must've been completely green to redshirt at Wyoming.
Looking at how many JUCOs we signed this class, I think it's obvious that the coaching staff thinks we're close to being a playoff contender this year. Rather than add more depth or projects for the future, they wanted guys like Johnson and Kongbo who can contribute immediately on an already-talented unit. They're (slightly) mortgaging the future to take advantage of the last year we'll have Dobbs, Hurd and Kamarara all together. PLAYOFFS OR BUST in 2016!!!
Paul said last night he didn't like Ole Miss and didn't want to go there. It was his parents. Shocker I know
Hugh almost invests more in parents than he does the recruit, and then lets the parents recruit for him once he wins them over. He's quite good at it...

We'll start with Jonathan Kongbo. There is merit to the disagreement between he and his father on where he should have signed, but you have to credit Robert Gillespie there for grinding away a lot of long hours over the last few weeks as Kongbo was torn.
As he revealed to some and as we had said on the board, Kongbo was never a huge fan of Ole Miss. It's why they were never a factor until Hugh Freeze made the visit to see his family in Canada.
Tennessee would have always been the choice for Kongbo if Ole Miss hadn't had the close relationship with the father and it likely wouldn't have been as wild down the stretch as it was.
While there was plenty of drama around Kongbo, everyone is on the same page about his potential as a player. Even though his still raw in certain areas, he's one of the best looking prospects we've seen in a long time.
He looks like he's ready to play now.
Now, he will have to learn some things and we're not sure he's going to take off right out of the gate, but if everything comes together for him he could be in elite company. He has that much potential.

That first class when they signed Treadwell, Tunsil and Nkemdiche was a red flag. Anyone with a brain knew what was happening. If you're Ole Miss, you do not land the top WR, OT and DE (number one overall) players from out of state.
It just doesn't happen. The top heavy recruiting was a dead giveaway that they were cheating.
I may be wrong and it would certainly not be the first time, but I think there was a lot of posters making Kongbo's father a villain on this site and others that people should feel bad about.
What I read in Brent's update and in Ryan Callahan's article on Govolsxtra is that while his father was more comfortable with Ole Miss, based on the fact that Freeze was the only head coach he ever met, it was not a situation where the father refused to sign. Sounds to me like Jonathan simply had to sit down with mom and dad and tell them why Tennessee was his decision.
Based on having seen the Periscope video with Kamara talking to Kongbo on signing day that Kongbo was torn on disagreeing with dad and considered signing with Ole Miss, even though he did not want to go there. I think Kamara's call is what set things in motion, along with maybe GIllespie.
If they cheat so bad why didn't he end up at Ole Miss. I am not denying they do pay. But we pay too! Ole Miss isn't a bad place and Freeze is a good coach. Beautiful campus and beautiful women. Not so hard to see why kids would want to go there. Me no. It was closer for to attend Ole Miss but I chose my school since I was in first grade.
And then there's Clemson cheating...

I believe Jacques McClendon still holds the UT team record in the squat at 730 pounds. In high school, he set Baylor's squat record of 650 pounds.
Last spring, Kendal Vickers' team-best squat was 710 pounds, up from a 460 max in high school.
In this Vine dated Nov. '14, Kongbo says "600lbs. Coach Duval has helped me get stronger. Came in squatting 315." So he almost doubled his squat PR in just a few months, and I just saw today that he reportedly has a current squat max of 705 pounds.
If he continues to make strides in the weight room, Kongbo could very well have the greatest lower-body strength of any Vol in history by this fall...and after a full year with Lawson, Strip & Shoop, he'll be a game-changing monster for opposing OTs to deal with.
Ole Miss has nothing to offer recruits better than us except money. We have better facilities and a better stadium. There are very few schools that offer facilities and a stadium to rival us.
And there's no chance Ole Miss has more money than us... so there isn't even that.
I don't know what Freeze is doing to get recruits there, but it's not money. At least half the SEC teams can easily outbid them.
