'16 AZ DE Jonathan Kongbo UT Signee 2/3/16

Bob Shoop will be the reason that Kongbo being green won't matter as much. I noticed while he was at Vandy that he puts his players (especially DL) in situations that maximizes the things they do well and hides their deficiencies. With the athletes that he will have at his disposal, we may have a top 5 defense this year. Also look for one of the freshman DB's to play a major role this season. My guess would be Byrd, but there could be some pleasant surprises.

Quote:
DE Jonathan Kongbo – Tennessee – He doesn’t know what he’s doing just yet but he’s too big and athletic to stay off the field and once he gets into a groove he will be hard to stop, especially with those defensive tackles and having Derek Barnett to teach him.

-Mike Farrell.

This. Like a RB who gets stronger as the game goes on and the more carries he has JK needs reps but too, he's raw talent that will make both mental and physical mistakes along the way in his development. Will Jones be patient and give JK the needed reps as he works through his mistakes, that's the question

It's going to be a fun competition to follow at DE. I think Barnett definitely start, but then you have Kongbo, Vereen who has played great, Phillips who we all expect a lot from, and Taylor who might be the best athlete of them all. Lewis and Butcher will fight for snaps too. It's a nice problem to have.

Will he be able to declare early for the draft next season? Or are we guaranteed to have him 2 years?

He's in a similar situation as Kamara was in, where he went to a D1 school, then went JUCO, then signed with another D1 school. Being that Kamara was a possible threat to head to the NFL this year, I'm willing to be it will be a similar situation where we end up having to re-recruit Kongbo to stay at Tennessee.

Reports make it seem like he is still pretty raw. Strip is one of the best out there, so I'm sure Kongbo will develop quite a bit, but coming back would probably help his stock.

Imagine how much better our offensive line will be from having to practice against our defense every week? It's gonna be NIIIIIIICEEEEEE.

How much of an indictment is it on Ole Miss's dirty program that he literally wanted nothing to do with them and his dad was pushing them hard?

Hugh almost invests more in parents than he does the recruit, and then lets the parents recruit for him once he wins them over. He's quite good at it...

clean.

I do find it absolutely odd that ole miss over the last couple of years has become this recruiting force. I know they've had some solid years lately--but c'mon. The johnny rebs have never won ANYTHING.

He can be a one and done. He redshirted at Wyoming

How must've been completely green to redshirt at Wyoming.

Looking at how many JUCOs we signed this class, I think it's obvious that the coaching staff thinks we're close to being a playoff contender this year. Rather than add more depth or projects for the future, they wanted guys like Johnson and Kongbo who can contribute immediately on an already-talented unit. They're (slightly) mortgaging the future to take advantage of the last year we'll have Dobbs, Hurd and Kamarara all together. PLAYOFFS OR BUST in 2016!!!

I'm not gonna comment on the bagmen (though I believe they exist in many programs) but I will say that as long as he keeps beating Alabama he will keep his job. That game seems to catapult them into the spotlight for the entire year.

That first class when they signed Treadwell, Tunsil and Nkemdiche was a red flag. Anyone with a brain knew what was happening. If you're Ole Miss, you do not land the top WR, OT and DE (number one overall) players from out of state.

It just doesn't happen. The top heavy recruiting was a dead giveaway that they were cheating.

Nkimdiche's brother was already there so that's kinda understandable. I have heard that his dad got a job there afterwards too tho. Tread well and Tunsil going is a complete joke

Treadwell literally posted a pic of a brown bag and a large sum of cash, lol.
