'16 D.C. DE/TE Devante Brooks (UT commit 1/15/15)

My grandpa: "I'd have me a ham and cheese sandwich if I had me some cheese and some ham."

My grandpa will sit at the breakfast table everyday and sing, "Oh Lord it's hard to be humble when your perfect in every way." Drives my grandma crazy! :eek:lol:

My dad used to sing that early in the morning on the way to school. I sing it around my wife from time to time.

I guess it has something to do with how I fill out my skin tight blue jeans.

Do you have any advice on PM&R vs family med sports? I'm pretty confident that I want to work in sports med, but I'm unsure which direction to take. I think I'd like to work in an ortho group and probably with a school (not sure at what level though). I wanted to do ortho surg for a long time, but I'm unsure. I've shadowed a few family sports guys and enjoyed it, but I'm not sure about spending 3 years training in primary care when I really want to do sports. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there are many pm&r docs in my area and I've had a little bit more trouble grasping the field.

I picked PM&R because it combined Neurology, Rheumatology, and Orthopedics. Would allow me to do sports med and musculoskeletal without being a surgeon...
There was no Family Practice Sports Fellowships then...

Both can get you to your goal. Take PM&R as an elective as early in your 4yr as possible. That way, you can go after it or eliminate it as an option.

Yes
It is only a test. No one will live or die by one of your answers.
Go out to eat and watch a good movie the night before. Studying that last night is counterproductive and will only raise doubt as well as undermine your confidence.
Practice test question time. I learned to answer each question in 45 seconds or less. It took away my chances to second guess myself.
Unless a later question gives you the correct answer, do NOT shift from your first impression/answer.

Trust yourself.
You will be a doctor soon. Learn to trust your first impressions and instincts as they are usually correct. When you stress out over the question you become your own worst enemy.
You are a VFL! We make the best docs! Because the qualities that best serve a doctor are the essence of the Volunteer spirit. (The last is just to pump you up, even if it is totally true)
This test is your beatch.

How's that?
The real test is when you are the only person available at 3AM when the patient is dying and you have no backup. That is the true test. Second day as an intern, 1st call night. Yeah buddy, I crapped a diamond, but saved the patient. Cannot believe that was almost 24 years ago. Smh :)

Awesome post is awesome. Proud of you, Doc. :good!:

Can't provide any input about the profession, but I didn't realize you were in the DFW area. I was born in Plano but have lived in Memphis area for a long time. Unfortunately, some have passed away, but pretty much my whole extended family is/was around there.

I was born in Memphis now live in Southlake :)

Feel so bad for this kid. Hope he heals completely and is able to pursue whatever his dreams are.

I think we should pass on this fellow. In a perfect world we could still give him some sort of scholly...

Disagree, I'd just try and ensure Middleton is part of this class as well, who has ability at TE, if he has all of his issues in check.
