'16 GA DE Mykelle McDaniel (UT signee 7/23/2016)

Boom! Big pick-up especially given our high school DL misses last cycle.

Boom! If he plays inside our interior depth looks a whole lot better. Then if Alexis Johnson is able to come back we are in great shape.

Idea: Maybe staff has been slow playing bringing Alexis Johnson back, so they could have leverage to get this guy in the class? Hard to see him contribute a lot at DT this year at 265. Too stacked at DE for him to see the field. Redshirt?

He did have his grades. Kid is smart--gonna be a doctor. He was home schooled and the NCAA clearing house was the hold up.

I was going to say that I cannot believe it took five months, then I remembered that it was the NCAA and am now grateful it was done that "fast."

Thought I read where he attended HS the last 3 years or so. But, if not, traditional homeschoolers have higher admission requirements than students from accredited HSs. Not sure if the NCAA punishes homeschoolers in a similar way also, but maybe the case.

I've put 4 homeschoolers in college so far. Two finished at accredited schools, so life was easier for them. :hmm:

Brenthood baby! You think you know me?

Have to give Butch a lot of credit for getting McDaniel. From what I have heard he was a top 100 type player early in his high school career before gaining too much weight. Kirby Smart was trying hard to get him to UGA but Butch won the battle. Great job.

This kind of goes directly against the idea that you only post negative opinions on here...

I agree that this kid is a great pickup...if you chose to think of him as a replacement for Henderson in this class then I definitely think we upgraded in that regards

Has it ever actually been stated by any reputable service they factor qualifying into a rating? Asking because I've never seen it. If they do, seems ridiculous. They are giving an evaluation on athletic talent and probably have no clue what a kid got on his latest history exam. I know Rivals use to list a kids ACT score(not sure if they still do), but how's that even validated?

Or is the notion that sites factor grades into the evaluation more something fans came up with to declare a kid underrated?

McDaniel is a take IMO. I'm not so much talking about his rating but in general. I see fans use "grades" a lot when wanting to declare a 3* a 4* or whatever.

I can't give you specific quotes but I do recall someone (I swear I think it was Womack) who has brought up qualifying as a reason to downgrade a kids rating...

I don't think it's officially part of their ranking system and I completely agree that it would be assenine if it were

Kipp Adams reported that Georgia passed on him. Word is he has a very bad attitude. Hopefully Butch can put some discipline in him.

His coaches at Grayson regard him as a pleaser, someone who has grown up to be more than a player who likes to rush the passer. Whenever a chance presents itself to do community outreach, he’s among the first to volunteer.

“I just love giving back and that is a way to give back,” McDaniel said. “I look at it as me taking an hour out of my day to try and make somebody else’s day. If I could do that, then I will do it. Why would someone not want to do that?”

His career path has been shaped by his family. He has seen aunts and grandmothers make their living as registered nurses. The future Dr. McDaniel will be a pediatrician. “I like working with kids and I like helping people,” McDaniel said. “I just see that as a good life for me.”

Funny how this "word" stuff gets out after a team "passes" on someone. Got into it with a poster last offseason over Kamara...said he hoped Kamara "could straighten himself out". AK didn't work out at Bama and got cited for driving without a license and he got cast as a Breaking Bad fringe character. :)

What a bad attitude...(blue font).

Little Kirby is trying to figure out a way to suspend his one DL (who has two arrests in the last few months ) for only half a practice. He wasn't used to this in Tuscaloser.

On a serious note, UGA police and Clarke County both love to target UGA athletes. Kirby has met with them and expressed his dissatisfaction.
