If you honestly didn't think we were going to get Phillips then you are either more pessimistic than any Tennessee fan should be or more optimistic than any Ole Miss fan should be. :)

Half glass empty guy here. Never been optimistic on pulling great players out of Memphis, history not kind to us there...Don't think the Hart situation will make it any easier in the future....

He is the key in this recruitment. If he passes Martha's approval then we have this one on lock down. Derrick has been high on the Vols for awhile he just needs his parents to approve it. And Shoop is the one who can ultimately get this sig for us

Shoop is a tremendous recruiter. Load the cannons everyone

Agree. Derrick's Mom seems to really know what she is doing and also seems to have her son's best interest at heart. She seems like a great mom.

If you only knew. Love the Browns, in fact when they opened Lanier and left NG it was a sad day. Their youngest son continued playing with NG up until freshman football. Their family will be an asset to whichever school DB chooses.

Since it seems you are connected with them, do you have any insight where you think he may end up?

None, people will tell him commit to the g and he just smiles, only thing I heard was that he liked Auburn growing up. Now knowing the family they will do what's best for them, and not take the selection lightly. Anyone saying they think they know where he is going is just a guess. I honestly wouldn't be surprised with any of UT, Nama, Auburn or UGA, I think MSU is just to far away.

If you listen to the mother talk about his recruitment after his Auburn visit, she said that UT had the most to convince Derek. UT will have to kill his OV on the 29th and really sell CBS to him and his family. His family is putting a big focus on relationships with the Coaches.

I hope I am wrong but after listening to his mother it sounds like a GA vs AL battle. Contrary to the AU vs UT I have been hearing lately. (Purely reading between the lines and not and insider)

I wouldn't put a ton of stock into that article. It seems like it has an Auburn slant to it. From a few posts up:

^^^ this is why I don't read recruiting articles anymore. The author can take any article and paint any picture he chooses simply by what he includes or leaves out and how they organize the sentence structure.

When you read the quote above, at first it reads like the mother said "Tennessee needs to make the most out of the visit because we are not familiar with Shoop."

....but in reality the question was asked "does Tennessee need to make the most out of their visit because you and your son are not familiar with Shoop?" to which she replied "most definitely."

I mean what kind of question is that to ask an uncommitted prospect? How else would she answer?

I agree that they did do a good job of trying to pry any AU love they could, but she elaborated multiple times on relationships with coaches. I did not get a strong AU feel, I got a strong Jeremy Pruitt and Kirby Smart feel.

Maybe it's just me...but I thought her tone kinda changed when asked about Tennessee and she started to say that the 'school' part was wrapped up and that they just wanted to learn more about the coaches. Initial impression tells me that Brown is already a Vol...and I'm not just being overly optimistic.

Also, I love how Tennessee was last school they asked her about...I could be reading too much into it but I think they scared...

Brown and Warrior both end up being Vols IMO. Hardman will land at UGA; he was always going to land at UGA.

I think you're right. Hardman strikes me as an elite player but pulling Callaway (or Velus Jones or both) helps lessen the impact of missing on Hardman. I would rather have another elite DT in Brown and an elite S in Warrior. All in all, I will take it (although I would prefer to have Hardman too).

Brown was on with Rusty Mansell last night in Atlanta.

On Auburn, he said it was a good visit. Their pitch was "let's bring you in and get you to work." Had never previously met Steele.

On Georgia, said he met Mel Tucker when he was at Bama but didn't remember him.

Rusty didn't really ask him about UT other than why they got the last visit. Sounded like a smart kid, wasn't tipping his hand. He didn't sound overwhelmed by either Ga or AU.

I'm not sure. He seems to love every place he goes and he's going to Tennessee last. Before Richt left I assumed it was going to be Georgia, but now I don't know if the new UGA staff has being showing him "the love."

I think the school nobody is talking about is Mississippi State. His parents both went there and they met there.

For now I'll stick with my prediction, but as always reserve the right to change my mind later.
