Ouch. Yeah that hurts.
Losing Christmas-Giles and now losing someone we thought we might get in Brown..
DT is not a good position to be thin at
We have no high school DTs in this class. How does that happen?
Really funny how Hubbs changed his mind on Brown here at the end. I wonder how many subscriptions he sold with all of the positive comments he pushed over the last month or so?
Media, except UT, were saying we were out of it.
That doesn't change my outlook on this guy IMO. Things always look a little bleaker immediately following a visit to another school. But that cuts both ways. You'd better believe that the more rational UGA and AU fans are sweating that final visit to UT.
...but Hubbs didn't give any first hand knowledge of this recruitment. He passed along what he had heard from 'around the SEC' without telling us who he had spoken with... I would expect that to mean he has spoken with Auburn and Georgia homers who both think they are getting Brown - we already knew that. Just keep in mind that Hubbs won't give positive info unless he has it first hand and it's rock solid. He will always err on the side of us being a long shot when he doesn't really know much.
We still get the last visit and I don't think our staff has given up unlike most of our posters will... based on pretty much nothing from the Hubber.

What media? Auburn and UGA media? 2 of the biggest homer fan bases when it comes to recruiting?
Woody Womack predicted Tennessee. And he is far from a Tennessee supporter. Only constant I've heard is that Brown and his family isn't tipping their hand. His mom even said anyone claiming they knew where Derrick is going was guessing. Not predicting anything here, but anyone who has followed Hubbs knows he likes to add suspense the closer we get to NSD. His words were also 'somewhat an uphill climb'. He didn't say long shot or any other code word. End of the day we get Brown's last visit.
From Auburn Rivals -
Derrick Brown is arguably one of the most important targets left on Auburn's big board, and he felt like a top priority during his official visit to the Plains.
"Coming down here you always get the family atmosphere," Brown told AuburnSports.com. "Some people say that about their school, but you can't really tell that. Definitely coming down here you get that feeling."
The Rivals100 defensive tackle was able to spend much-needed quality time with the new coaching staff including defensive coordinator Kevin Steele.
"He seems like the type that can play defense," he said. "I got to sit and talk x's and o's with him and that was good."
Academics is a big factor for Brown. Before his official visit to Auburn, he was most impressed with Tennessee and Georgia's business programs. Now, the Tigers are right there with them.
"It was big for me yesterday getting to go talk with the business side (school)," he said. "I got to talk a little bit briefly in the spring, but they explained the whole nine-yards with me yesterday. We got to see everything."
The Sugar Hill, Ga., prospect doesn't plan on making a final decision until National Signing Day between Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Georgia and Tennessee. He will visit Athens and Knoxville over the next two weeks on official visits.
"I just got to find a place that's home for me," he said. "Once I find it, from there on we will go."
Brown wouldn't give much away about where things stand, and he doesn't plan on discussing the recruitment process with anyone else besides his parents.
"That's the only people that I'm going to talk to about it," he said. "If it's not coming from me or my parents, I wouldn't believe it."
Brown is ranked as the No. 25 overall player and No. 3 defensive tackle in the country.
The visit did not impress from what I hear. They rolled out the carpet for him and tried to sell him on being the next great at Auburn. He just did not click with the others that is what I have heard also. I think we lock this one down on the 29th.

Speaking of Hubbs and suspense: It's a virtual guarantee that both he and Fortenberry will play hot and cold with all of our major targets from now until NSD. It drives clicks to the site.
