-VQ.At 6-foot-2, 185-pound Callaway has the size to help right away, but what separates him from others and has him included in the final Rivals100 is his athletic ability. Callaway's speed and athleticism was on display at the Army All-American as he showed out at cornerback even though he's been pegged as a receiver at the next level.
Callaway has to continue to develop his route running ability, but all the natural tools are there for him to be a contributor in the SEC. But, he shows enough natural skills on the offensive side of the ball to make an early impact because of his speed.
That could come sooner rather than later at Tennessee with the Vols losing Von Pearson, Jonathan Johnson and Marquez North. That has left the Vols with only six returning scholarship wide receivers from the 2015 team and only four that caught a pass this past season.
Callaway is joining Jeff George, who is already on campus and will go through spring practice, Corey Henderson and Brandon Johnson and all four will have the opportunity to see the field this fall.
-Woody Wommack."Callaway is a long, tall versatile athlete and you can see that translating to the next level as a wide receiver or defensive back. We had a chance to see him in San Antonio at the Army All-American Game against some of the top athletes in the country and he more than held his own while playing defensive back. While I think his higher ceiling is on the defensive side of the ball, with his ball skills and his speed I can see him being an impact player on offense as well.
He plays like a Clemson WR.
He is in that Sammy Watkins/Artavis Scott mold.
Not sure if he is quite that fast but looks like he has speed to burn.
Makes sense that Clemson started coming after him down the stretch, surprised it took them that long.
-VQ."I just felt like that was the best place for me," Callaway said. "Not just sports and the football part, but the team itself and the academic side. I just had the feeling that it was going to be the right fit. I had that vibe that this was going to be the place for me."
"I sat down at looked at every school and I just had that feeling that Tennessee was perfect," Callaway said. "They have two great quarterbacks and I feel like we can have that bond together. I think Jarrett (Guarantano) and I are going to be great together. We have already started a connection off the field and I think it's going to carry to on the field."
"I think I bring the winning edge," Callaway said. "I feel like if I'm on the team then I'm going to be in the zone and take football and see it as I'm doing it because I'm having fun. I think I make others around me better players both on the field and off."
Out and about recruiting for the Vols on Thursdayis wide receivers coach Zach Azzanni and the man they call "Z" is most definitely smiling.
"He is consistent," Callaway said."He gets straight to the point and keeps it real. That's all you can ask for. Letting things slide isn't going to make me or other players better. He's going to push you to your limit and demands perfection.
"Also adding to the comfort level is head coach Butch Jones. The top Vol has the attention of the Peach state product and in the end, Callaway has the attention of the Vol family."I love his voice," Callaway said. "I don't know if that is weird or not, but when he talks people listen. You can tell what kind of person he is when you start talking to him. He tells me that I can be a difference maker both on and off the field."
"I've been born and raised in Warner Robbins," Callaway said. "I know there is talent everywhere, but I know that us Georgia boys don't take lightly to losing so I know we are going to do anything to win. We want to put on for the 478 and my entire town of Warner Robbins."
