'16 KS DT Alexis Johnson (UT commit 6/16/15)

Is it just me or does Butch Jones and his staff seem to get in on a lot of players early before they blow up in rankings. Jones and staff do an excellent job evaluating talent an offering scholarships before any one else does.I think this helps Tennessee in recruiting being one of the first to offer a recruit really goes a long ways with kids.

Couldn't agree more. If you look at this kid's offer list, it's not that impressive at all. For TN to offer when there's little interest from any of the other powerhouses shows confidence in their evaluation process. I love this staff ... so thankful we got Butch!

Argh, why can't we throw Blair's name in as well!?!?

Because Blair was highly rated by all the recruiting services before we started recruiting him and well before he committed.

IIRC, Blair was #1 JUCO OT by 247

The other guys mentioned were not highly rated when they committed

No ... Just my dad's CB name from when I was like 9 years old. My last name is Walker.

That's cool, I just thought you might be into showing Tennessee walking horses. I use to back in the mid to late 90's. It also made me think about the old tradition of the Tennessee walking horse coming out at Neyland stadium before kickoff back in the day. I would like to see that tradition come back, but since Neyland went back to natural turf they had to quit because it tore up the field to much.

They do it at the HC game only now. They go around the perimeter of the field.

Ok, I didn't realize they still did it at the HC game still. I'm glad they didn't end the tradition all together. Thanks for the information it has been a long time since I have been able to attend a game at Neyland.

At least I hope they do. It's been about 8 years since I've attended a HC game but it was done at every one when I was in school.

Quinn was a Jones recruit, I can only imagine the scrambling that staff did to sign players and mend broken relationships caused by the prior regime during those first several weeks on the job

Dooley recruit. Butch picked it up after the staff had been let go, but they initiated the contact

One thing a lot of you guys forget (those of you who talk about redshirting and developing players) is that 25x5 does not equal 80.

That's why it's good to take 5 or more Jucos each season. Let someone else develop their talent until they're a junior. If you can't help us on the field for 3 years, you're probably a wasted scholarship.

Our DT' rotation will soon the best in the SEC

Absolutely. Among the best in FBS, really.

Close games will start playing out more and more in our favor as offensive lines get tired and we're rotating in bodies on the front four with little to no drop off.

That plus getting pressure all game with just the front four is the biggest difference between an average defense and a top 10 defense nationally.
