'16 KS DT Alexis Johnson (UT commit 6/16/15)

The size, power, and explosion leaps off the page. He's 6-foot-5 and 305 pounds with no bad weight. He's the stereotypical massive bodied defensive tackle in the middle. He can clog the running lanes with his sheer size and strength, he can even rush the passer with his quickness, and he has athletic ability to move laterally across the line to make plays as well. There isn't much Johnson can't do.

There isn't much this big-bodied Johnson can't do?

Sorry, I'm 12.

Our rotation will be sick next year. McKenzie and Tuttle will each have a year in the program. O'Brian will be a redshirt senior and be a contributer. Johnson should be a major contributer too. Then we have Picou too. Combine that with the ends and we'll have arguably the best DL in the conference. It's hard not to be excited.

Is it just me or does Butch Jones and his staff seem to get in on a lot of players early before they blow up in rankings. Jones and staff do an excellent job evaluating talent an offering scholarships before any one else does.I think this helps Tennessee in recruiting being one of the first to offer a recruit really goes a long ways with kids.

Seems like they recruit very few busts as well.

I think Butch's background serves him well in this regard. He had to recruit diamonds in the rough so to speak at his previous stops, so he's used to looking past the hype at the player.

I'm so excited about our future. We are about to be back in a major way.

You make a good point. I have never thought of it that way but it definitely makes since.

Let's not forget about Bob Weldon and his team here.

We have former NFL Scouts assisting our coaches in their evaluations.

A good amount of the credit for early identification and quality evals goes to those guys.

And we just got even better with the addition of Bob Merritt (another former NFL scout) as Director of Recruiting.

True! All of the above in my opinion.

Tennessee junior-college defensive tackle commitment Alexis Johnson was back on campus for a visit during Friday's camp. At least one member of his family took advantage of the opportunity to buy some UT gear while they were in town.
Johnson said he was able to make the trip because he's still at home in the Atlanta area, and he's taking some classes this summer while he's there. He said he will report back to Kansas next month to begin preparing for his junior-college season.
