'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

Talent is getting better. We just need some time to develop. Blair was an epic miss but most of our young talent looks pretty good.

Let's be honest about it, Mahoney has proven to be the weak link with his players on the field. He can redeem himself this season with Debord's help. But UT should be the home of a quality O-line every year based on its history of guys logging long careers in the NFL.

Per Hubbs

Based on his top group Dickerson prefers the old school pro style system. His top group is Va Tech, FSU and Auburn with UGA, Michigan, And Stanford pushing. TN is In that back group. So TN and Aubbie are the only two uptempo teams in his top 7. Aubbie has some pretty big running game numbers to pitch to OLineman from Gus and their oline coach which helps them despite being uptempo they are a heavy ground attack.

This season could help us if we get going early with a strong ground attack and show improvement on oline. He isn't going to announce for a while.

Not too worried about Dickerson. We already have Ryan Johnson committed and this keeps things open for 2 higher valued targets in Marcus Tatum and E J Price.

If we can get Tatum and Price to go with Johnson that would be a great haul. I'd still like to get 4 quality Olinemen this class; that said you never know how things are going to turn out, some thought Jashon Robertson would be a Dlineman until he got on campus.

Which o lineman, specifically, did he fail to develop? Ever heard the saying "can't run a champagne business on a beer budget? Look at the players who came in in 2015 and start judging him in 2016-17 on their progress. Also, please consider the offensive numbers post Worley.

It's similar to Harry Heistand. He was good his first year with a few vets then he sucked with a group of. First yr starters then he was great again when he went to ND and coached on a NC runner up. Mahoney was solid for getting James up into first rd then sucked with a bunch of first yr guys then will probably be praised once we go HAM this year.

This year will be Mahoneys test of development along with Debords impact. My biggest thing with Mahoney is recruiting. He is def the weak link in that department but Debord is here to help him. So he needs to show his value is coaching and quick. He needs to be able to point to some guys he has trained and developed into stars for a full 3-4 years. Debord helps in this department for now.

Is it fair to say that Mahoney is the weakest link on this staff?

No idea but it's definitely starting to look that way. Talent is still a huge issue on the Oline though. Mahoney isn't the only one that fails if this Oline sucks though. IDK that you can look at it in a vacuum as just the Oline sucks so therefore Mahoney sucks as well. Debord has experience coaching the Oline, Jones probably has had some input at Oline coaching as well. Despite several freshmen contributing early across the country, Oline is one of the areas that benefit the most from a few years of S&C and experience. I still think we have real issues as far as talent and depth when compared to our SEC peers; you have an undersized center still starting, a RT that most everyone assumes will be terrible, and possibly a true freshman starting on the interior as well.

I guess Butch and Debord are probably more qualified to evaluate the job Mahoney is doing but the guy has been with Butch for several years and has rebuilt other Olines for Jones. I think we're seeing just how talent poor we were at the position and seeing that it takes time there moreso than anywhere else to rebuild. Just my two cents though, I'll roll with my head coach on whatever decision he makes.

nope...nope...VN will judge him based on the FCS grade linemen that were already here.

They dismiss the fact that it has been stated that both Kerbyson and Thomas have improved a great deal. Jashon Robertson was Freshman AA. Those facts don't matter to them though.

The 15 class is as solid as they come, not sure on the timing of their commitments and the Debord hiring. Ol guys dont always have to be recruited like DR. Most of them dont care about hype they're usually lunch pail type personalities. I think our woes go back as far as Fulmer when we witnessed Kiffin forced to play some undersized walk ons. We followed up with a good ol during the Dooley era (eventually) but he slipped by not continuing to recruit players for the future.

Harry had the ability to look at 2 players in different directions. A real talent
