'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

Which o lineman, specifically, did he fail to develop? Ever heard the saying "can't run a champagne business on a beer budget? Look at the players who came in in 2015 and start judging him in 2016-17 on their progress. Also, please consider the offensive numbers post Worley.

So Dobbs is your evidence to trust Mahoney? But you're right 2016 we can fairly judge him and I mean it better be upper third SEC material he rolls out there or he needs to go. Every other unit is making great strides, but once again our OL is pulling our ceiling down.

Because Bielema? Probably. Pittman has several UT guys in the NFL right now though.

I don't see anything wrong with saying Mahoney may be our worst coach. There's got to be one on the coaching staff 😋 I pick him.

Pittman coached them for one year, just like Mahoney. Those players got drafted because of how well they were in pass blocking, Heidstand was the reason they got drafted. Bert has been putting Wisconsin linemen in the NFL for awhile now, and now he's doing it at Arkansas. Mahoney may be the worst coach on the staff, but Pittman is so overrated on this board.

Skipper would be our LT right now.. If Jones would have kept Pittman. He is mammoth and will play on Sundays

Oh yea forgot it was one year.

So one player is the reason? What if Pittman would have left like Graham because it was a bad fit? What if he went to Arkansas anyway to play for Bert? It's not that crazy to think Skipper would have flipped even with Pittman still on staff because he had a connection with Chaney

Pittman was a great recruiter at NC and now at Arkansas. That the larger point

I wouldn't say great at UNC. UNC was pulling in great classes all around with Davis as HC. He's s really good recruiter, but so is Mahoney. He may be a little better recruiter and coach than Mahoney, but it's not a night and day difference like people claim it to be. Bert is the reason for Arky's oline recruiting success. For media days, he took only olinemen. He's trying to make olinemen the stars of Arkansas. That's all Bert, not Pittman

Let's be honest about it, Mahoney has proven to be the weak link with his players on the field. He can redeem himself this season with Debord's help. But UT should be the home of a quality O-line every year based on its history of guys logging long careers in the NFL.

I understand the frustration. However, having five seniors who all started and graduated at the same time was a bad situation to be put in long term. The 0 recruits hurt and dools did not care because he could just not handle the long term thinking as well as short term in running a program and having a plan.

At times, best laid plans can get screwed up with injuries ect. But, he had no plan to keep a pipeline going and allowing freshmen to redshirt and lift weights while you had enough upper class men to actually play who were fully ready and developed. It will take another two years to go with last years OL class to get it to where it should be to be elite.

Yep Pittman is solid but people make him out like the greatest OL coach ever here when you have to factor in how big a part Beliema has in what is happening at Arky. wisky was practically OLU under him

Good post.

A lot of grass is always greener attitudes on here.

A coach leaves for another school and does well..."I sure wish Butch would have kept him. He's way better than our coach!"

A 4 star WR we recruited but took a commitment from someone else and that kid makes a nice catch, immediately the old thread is bumped..."I sure wish we'd have signed that guy, he's awesome!"

A UT starter goes down in fall camp..."Why does this always happen to us, we're snake bit, wah wah wah!!!!"...A rival loses a starter..."They'll be fine, plenty of depth on that team. I bet the backup is even better."

The 15 class is as solid as they come, not sure on the timing of their commitments and the Debord hiring. Ol guys dont always have to be recruited like DR. Most of them dont care about hype they're usually lunch pail type personalities. I think our woes go back as far as Fulmer when we witnessed Kiffin forced to play some undersized walk ons. We followed up with a good ol during the Dooley era (eventually) but he slipped by not continuing to recruit players for the future.

I still feel as though that elite group of OLinemen underachieved as a unit. Those were highly rated players, two of which start in the NFL right now.

Who's Bert at Arky?

Pittman is a better O-line coach than Mahoney. He's adapted to more systems, head coaches, and been successful developing more NFL players for a longer period than Mahoney. Bert (Bret) and him are two of a kind, which is why he is now associate HC at Arky.

That does not mean Mahoney cannot improve and do better. Will see.

Beleima's nickname is Bert.

Adapted to more systems? So I guess Terry Joseph is a better db coach than Kirby Smart because he has adapted to more systems.

Pittman has coached for 3 different power 5 teams in 8 years, I sure hope he has put more olinemen in the NFL. Take away Tennessee and his first year at Arkansas away and his numbers are pretty low. Mahoney has only been at a power 5 school for 2 years.

It's been popular for the last 7 years to bash Fulmer, but we can thank him for always having solid OL play

The '15 OL class alone won't cut it. We need 4 or more talented OL this year

Who said we should just stop with the elite '15 class?

Pretty sure we already have one 4star OL committed in '16 and more will follow. It's August, plenty of time for Butch to be Butch.

And with the epic '17 around the corner I'm quite certain elite OL will want in.

And so on...
