'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

If healthy? Which he has never been.

If we take him we'd need to drop someone in the 85 by fall and borrow a spot in next classes 25 (or 24 or 23 or whatever we're gonna be down to by then) to take a chance that he would actually be healthy for the first time in his career. His career path is similar to dkjr but maybe even less healthy. These are valid concerns that some of you guys choose not to acknowledge when going on about how dumb some of us are about not wanting to get him.

I know I did not say they were not valid concerns (double negative intended). Which is why I qualified with "much injured" in my post. I considered the concerns and still feel his presence when healthy is as a starter at UT because I saw him play at FSU. He was their best O-lineman, he played at a high level and physically dominated. I see enough guys on the current roster who will only be on the field when they run onto it before the game starts. IMO, one of them needs to go if Landon wants to be a Vol.

I know it is different in that Trey signed and played at UT. Landon did not come to UT because of Botch. But the end reasoning is the same with both. You leave a spot open for Trey to play even if it turns out he medically cannot. You give a spot to Landon even if he gets injured. They have both proven they can both play the game at a high level. The guys sitting the bench or playing poorly sporadically for years have not proven that. Landon can play G or T as Trey can. That's an an advantage for any team.

2 I think.

Dickerson, a redshirt sophomore last season at FSU, sprained an ankle in the season opener against Virginia Tech. He returned versus Louisville, but suffered an 'unspecified injury' in that game and did not return the rest of the season. He only appeared in a total of two games in 2018. In 2017, Dickerson started the first two games before missing the final nine due to injury. He started seven games as a true freshman in 2016, but had his season cut short due to an ACL tear.

FSU OL Landon Dickerson back in the transfer portal

Evidently he is currently healthy and was expected to start this year for FSU.

Starting offensive lineman enters the transfer portal...again

He was healthy and expected to start at the beginning of each of the last three years too. I'm just pointing out the risks and costs. Imo they are pretty significant. Obviously most people think he's worth it. I'm less confident. If we get him I hope he stays healthy and balls out. He hasn't shown he can do the first part so it's hard to expect it.

A veteran lineman from a power 5 is a take for us right now, end of story.
A veteran starter for The one power 5 team that actually had a worse OL than us, that has never completed a season healthy, and has actually been getting worse and worse health wise. He is Chance Hall. He also takes away a spot for a four year guy.

Could potentially have 4 former 5 star OL starting next year if Trey gets good news and a 5th year senior at Center. O-Line could go from abysmal to Top 3 in the league.
Yup. Would be huge to get this kid.

Yes, he's had injuries and it's risky. But it's 10000% a risk worth taking. This kid was a 5 star out of HS, started as a freshman at FSU, had some injuries but is now healthy and has TWO years left to play. Tennessee has had major OL woes and needs all the help we can get. Not wanting this kid in Orange might be the most negavol, LOM, dumbest thing I've seen posted in awhile.

We complain about having a terrible OL. Here's a possibility of having a plug and play starting OG fall into your lap. "No, thanks. Waste of scholarship." Hahahhaha some of these fans I tell ya, something special.

With our line we have to roll the dice.

I'm not arguing the point that he has a history of injuries but Pruitt has said his number for OL is 18. We have 15 so we're down 3. If LD can only play 100 snaps for us this year it could make a difference in whether we win one more game and I think there's a general sense that the quality of our recruiting classes regardless of numbers may be tied to how well we perform on the field. We need to win now. jmo.

That's the optimism I'm talking about!

Some Vol fans’ reactions:

Situation 1: Vol fan who makes $30,000 a year gets a million dollars for doing nothing from an unknown uncle. He immediately complains about having to pay taxes on the money.

Situation 2: Six foot tall bombshell physician agrees to date and then marry a Vol fan. He immediately complains that she’s taller than he is and makes more money than he does and he feels threatened as a man.

Situation 3: Former coveted 5* OL who has excelled when healthy wants to transfer from his blue blood football powerhouse and it’s rumored he may be considering the Vols and Vol fans have (rightfully) been complaining about the OL for years. Vol fans immediately criticize the potential transfer’s health and claim we aren’t sure we need him.

My reaction: I don’t know if Dickerson wants to come here, but, if he does and the coaches think he can help and they think he’s worth the scholarship, welcome aboard.

He hasn't shown he's any better than what we've had the last 2 years or will have this year. Maybe he's worth it but we are already up against the 85 and borrowing against next year's 25 so it will cost a lot to take the chance imo.
Oline is the one place I could see us taking a chance.
