'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

Are they really going to take 6 OL in one class?

A friend of mine who I would consider an FSU "insider" said that they will lose one and drop one and that Dickerson is absolutely a take. He also said that "they had to have Dickerson for Bama next year". Pretty sure his mind was blown when I reminded him that we play them every year.

Per Hubbs

Now, on to, as some have called it, the curious case of Landon Dickerson. The four-star, Rivals100 guard will be making his official visit to Tennessee this weekend but there hasn't been the same buzz around him as there has been other prospects.

Florida State and Alabama are both real factors here and you have to take in account Dickerson's on again, off again relationship with Tennessee. Things just aren't adding up to the Vols landing Dickerson but a big weekend on Rocky Top could change that.

Like I have been told Dickerson has always liked TN even before the recruiting process..Maybe when he gets on a official visit he will get blown away by the staff and what the campus has to offer.Hopefully Butch wins Mom over.

Where do you think the hesitation is coming from?

Dickerson is a guard brocephus. He isn't going to be competing for a tackle spot. He will be behind Jones and Robertson though.

Crap, I knew that.

Well we are pretty stacked at G too.

But like I am saying it can't really be our Depth Chart as I'm sure FSU and Bama are deep too.

Maybe this is a guy that is wowed by recent titles? I mean as great as our trajectory is we can't really compete with Bama and FSU on last 3-4 years success.

On the other hand, there is no upside there. They can only go down. :eek:hmy:

If you are elite you shouldn't be afraid of competition. The off/on interest with UT for the past 6 months has been a bit annoying.

With our recent history of OL injuries I don't care if you're the 4th string OL. Virtually all of them have either played or started (except Blair). If he comes in and stays healthy and is at least decent his first year I would say he would have a great shot at playing maybe evening starting a game.

The positive thing I see about Dickerson is the academic major he is pursuing. We have the best engineering school when compared to the competition. That along with the depth charts at Bama and FSU gives us an advantage. We could also add proximity to the list also.

I'm still really confident here. Vols have been in on him a long time. He has been to Tennessee numerous times as well. Add in all of the other advantages Tennessee has and I think we land him.

Literally everything makes sense as you say. It appears to be a perfect marriage.

But I can't get past the fact he's routinely named us a leader only fall out of favor and fade for a little bit.

It's like he likes us for logical reasons but emotionally or in his heart he's just not sold.

I think proximity is often overlooked, as well. It shouldn't. He's just over the hill from Knoxville. It's one thing if we are still stuck with DD, but we aren't, and EVERYONE picks us to be the SEC E champs next year. That means we have a clearer path to the playoffs/NC than FSU does.

I kind of think he's a dude whose favorite place is always the one freshest in his memory. So right after a visit to UT he's all about UT, but as he visits other places they look new and exciting while we fade for a bit.

Assuming my armchair internet psychology is correct, I think it really helps our cause to have last visit here.

I think he sees himself not cracking the depth chart here with Hall and Richmond at T both being so young.

Maybe? I'm sure Bama and FSU have just as good OL tho
I don't know about that. Hall performed admirably as a true freshman, but if you have someone like Dickerson on the roster, you give him a solid look, there. He's already bigger than Hall, so he has that to his advantage. Kid is already physically ready for the SEC. Not many freshmen are....just ask Jack Jones.

He's more talented than Weisman, who doesn't seem to do well when pulling. Many times I've seen Weisman look lost, like he doesn't know who to block. So, I bet Debord will try every way he can to get Dickerson into the starting lineup. If Robertson and Hall can play as true freshmen, there is no reason to expect any less of Dickerson.

It's human nature, and I strongly suspect it is why Butch tried to line up visits on the last weekend before NSD, for this very reason.

In a court of law, this is often an advantage...when you can make you closing statement last. You get to refute whatever argument the other attorney just made, while stating your case. The other guy gets no rebuttal.

It's pins and needles leading up to this weekend, but I would much prefer we get the last visit.

Difference is...those guys had to play as freshmen. Best case scenario for any team is to NOT have to start a freshmen. Especially on the O-ine. Unless he is just hands down, flat out, game changing better than those guys, it is much more beneficial to the team to RS him and give him a year in the S&C program. Also saves a year of game time wear and tear on a big guy.
