Happens all the time. They recruit a ton of guys they would not take a commitment from. Had Landon wanted a spot in October, he's probably got it. Maybe he still has a spot. He does appear to be at least 5th or 6th on the take list.

If Landon Dickerson doesn't come to UT it will be because Landon chose to go somewhere else. He was not passed on because of lack of talent.

Don't think anyone has said he didn't have talent, just that if he is fifth on the list when four are taken, he may not have a spot.

There is no hypocrisy in my positions. Unlike what you stated in your post, I have never called rivals or espn the gold standard in player evaluations. I've simply said that if there is any website I want us to be ranked highest in when it comes to team rankings, it's rivals and espn. Why? Because they have the most eyeballs and create the narratives around recruiting.

I've never said hey player x is better than player y because he ranks higher on rivals. I let the coaches and my own eval of the tape make those decisions. Remember I got berated by many around here when we were still after Kyle Davis for saying he wasn't as good as the websites rated him because he lacked elite speed or height.

The websites are only good for one thing. Knowledge. They let us know who these players are. They are not a bible for me when it comes to evaluations.

I trust my own eyes and the staff in that regard.

And we may have wanted him before we got full. My point remains, if he is number five on the staff's list, and we take four, he may not have a place. Regardless of his service ranking, nobody but the staff knows what place he is to them.

I think it's hilarious that you make such definitive statements. Are you on the coaching staff? Do you watch every practice? Do you get daily reports from the S&C coach on how they're doing in the weight room? Given how much you post, I highly doubt it. If your own evaluation skills are so great, how come you're not on staff somewhere? The numbers wall is very real. If we run out of room, we run out of room. That said, only the staff know for sure the numbers they are dealing with, but if we hit that wall, Dickerson could very well be passed on.

True I absolutely want him. Stuff will go down in the next 5 days and we might end up signing him. Personally, I think Butch is seeing all the heat coaches are taking when they replace a commitment with a higher rated player and knows this class is more about building depth rather than producing stars. I don't doubt Butch though, he seems to be right more often than the guys posting on Internet forums.

My stance would be we are beyond telling kids to take a hike. Whatever the number is we are cutting off all takers when that number is reached
