'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

here is my speculation.

we have tried for months to get Dickerson to give an indication to us that he would come and he never has. We had to push hard to get him in this past weekend for an OV. It wasn't known if he would come in or not until early last week after weeks of us pushing.

Bottom line speculation. Butch is tired of dealing with someone that is not giving him any time. He has moved on to trying to get kids interested in being here. Now if Dickerson calls tomorrow and we have a spot we may take him. We may also tell him to take a hike.

Sometimes it is better if you read a kids personality before taking him and you decide he might be a lot more trouble than value.

I've suspected that for some time.

AGreed. sometimes we forget part of this process is also to weed out the ones we don't need/want because of "fit". and we know how big CBJ is on "fit".

it's just as important to weed these out, as it is to bring in the talent.

Idk why Williams or Moss would ever be over Dickerson. That's mind-boggling. (Not saying you guys are wrong)

Needs, it's called needs... What good would 12 5* OL be to the team if you desperately need a QB,RB, and WR's? Just because he may be the best G in the country doesn't necessarily mean you take him if you feel you are in good shape at that position. Just look at The QB situation last year and this year. We recruited 1 QB, lost a committ for next year, I'd say we may not even recruit a replacement for Johnson due to Lawrence in 18, JG IN 16, and QD and SJ in 15...

I 100% agree but with our OL woes of late it's hard to comprehend that we're good on the O-line. Even though it might be true.

For years the recruiting forum has always been my favorite place, especially closer to signing day. However I am beginning to feel a strong hate feeling this year. Am I alone,
or does anybody else feel this way too?

Seems about the same to me.

How would you know, Mr. January 2016 join date?

It's like you're not even trying to hide the fact that you are LebVol. Do you really think we're all that clueless?

May as well use your old avi at this point. At least then you'd be honest.

Pretty sure that was him speculating, nothing from Miami boards confirming that. They are worried over there as here. Bit I am not LWS and he knows more than I do. GBO!

I have no clue what they are worried about more over there, Phillip Buchanon tweeting Byrd or losing Byrd... It's like a board full of 13 yr olds

Argument to absurdity doesn't work here. Every coach would take the top G in the country over a marginal player at a position of need. It's obvious to me that there is more going on than just that hypothetical choice, because the choice itself is a no-brainer.

This has been discussed ad nauseum and it has been stated repeatedly by those who have some insight that in spite of his high service ranking, the staff did not have him that high on their board. Nobody outside of the staff knows why he wasn't, but it seems pretty clear that there is more to the story.

Why am I reading that Dickerson wants to be a Vol but the coaches have told him they are not sure they have room?
Heard quite a few times you can never have enough linemen.. Not sure i'd believe that or not. Looks like a guy you would find room for..

I was told the staff loves him at guard but he's adamant about playing tackle. We like who we have currently.

Why not tell him he can have a shot at playing OT but if it doesn't work out he will slide inside? Kind of like we did with Jennings being converted? My take after reading a few of these posts is Dickerson has more attitude than they want to risk about a potential position conversion?

Most rational explanation I've heard so far.

That would be the most rationally fabricated speculation. The best I've seen is that Dickerson has been hot and cold with us, so Butch rightly discounted his status and secured some O-line commits. I think the coaches would love to have Dickerson, if he lays down the yoyo. That is my speculation.

We aren't desparate enough. We have a culture and foundation in place so no need to risk that with someone thinking you lied to them. id bet he ends up G no matter where he goes though.

As for Jennings, he knew the potential was there for switch of he struggled in spring

Evidently you are wrong, because not every coach is...

Fabrication?

Yeah I'm thinking Jennings was of a different mindset than Dickerson apparently. That's sad because you're right he'll land at OG most likely wherever he goes.

So bring him in as a Tackle. Competition makes everybody better and improves depth. Ultimately, if the kid wants to play, he'll either rise above the level of his competition or play another position. That's a win/win.
