With Tennessee's quarterback seemingly situation for the class of 2015 with commitments from Quinten Dormady and athlete Jauan Jennings, Vol coaches have been able to look towards the class of 2016.
Offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian and head coach Butch Jones have both been recruiting North Carolina quarterback Austin Kendall since he was a freshman and he was back on campus last Saturday as the coaching duo let him know he was a top target in 2016.
"Coach Jones and coach Jake told me I'm their guy," Kendall said. "They like me, I love it here and I'm going to keep coming back. They're one of my top schools. They just love building a relationship with me and I love building one with them and I'm just looking forward to what to come."
The 6-foot-1, 198-pound signal-caller said the long-standing relationship between the two parties has them high on his list early on.
"They've been on me since my freshman year. They were one of the first two to get on me and I like that about them and everything you hear about them is great," Kendall said.
Kendall spent his day with both coach Bajakian and coach Jones and both explained to him what the depth chart would look like in the future and how he would fit in.
"Today they sat down and showed me where the depth chart is and about where I'll stand and how I'll stand and how other guys will be gone and how I stack up and they have two commits in 2015 and one is an athlete," Kendall said. "I'll be competing with Dormady if I come here and the two other guys, Dobbs and Peterson, will be gone by then. They just sat there and talked to me about that."
Along with Tennessee, Kendall said Kentucky, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Penn State and several other schools were high on his list as well.
One school Kendall will continue to keep a close eye on is his parents alma mater, Georgia. He camped there last Friday before visiting Tennessee and it seems the Bulldogs could be close to offering.
"It was a good camp and I thought I did well. I threw the ball accurate. They told me they've offered two guys," Kendall said. "One has committed, Jacob Eason, and then they are going to wait and evaluate it and then get two more offers out there and I'm probably one of those two."
Kendall hopes to make it back to Tennessee for the season opener against Utah State or another night game during the season.
