'16 NC RB BJ Emmons

Wondering if our pro style under-center sets might have something to do with Emmons?

It doesn't hurt but it was for Jalen. He has been asking for that all year and Debord was able to finally implement it to being game ready during the break. I would expect with the success we had with it both running and play action TE pass that we will see it a lot more next year. Hurd running with a head start looked scary as a mofo

Also it got Hurd north and south and he wasn't trying to outrun people to the sidelines. Like catbone said I think it's more suited to his style of play.

I've said this before and got blasted. I also commented yesterday in the game thread that this was the most north-south I've seen Hurd play all year. I feel like he didn't use his size to his advantage enough during the season and spent too much time trying to outrun CB or LB to the edge.

if on the field performance is a barometer for future NFL success. Kamara needs another year. Really.

Nearly 1,000 total yards from scrimmage, on only 141 touches....7 yards every time he touched the ball...10 offensive touchdowns...another TD on special teams....as the backup running back.

Does he probably need to stay another year? Probably. But it's not because he didn't produce at a high rate. I think he showed enough for NFL scouts to see that he is definitely an NFL talent.

Foster was a beast his junior year other than that he wasted his time here.Hurd is a better back with a worse line. The line is getting alot better but his freshman year it was bad.

The second half of his freshman year he carried us the last half of the year. Is becoming the all time rushing leader wasted time?

He's better than Foster. IMO

In ways he is. I miss seeing a UT feature back be a true home run threat. Hurd is steady and will go down as one of the greatest to ever wear the orange if he stays healthy, but I long to see him just outrun everybody on the field like Foster and many more before him were known to do.

Hurd is just a different type of back, though, and I can appreciate that too. He's set to become the all-time leader in rushing yards, and if everything goes right he could obliterate the record.

I don't think our OL has been good enough to enable Hurd to shine the way he could. Next year should be his true breakout season. He's had to fight and scrap for just about everything he's gotten thus far.

I'm REALLY hoping Charles Mosley wins the starting RG job in the Spring. If Coleman Thomas adds some bulk this offseason, that could be one heck of an interior OL (Robertson, Thomas and Mosley).

But Jack Jones still has a lot of growing to do. He's very undersized for a RG in the SEC. Don't doubt his toughness and skill, but in the trenches, sometimes those big maulers is what keeps the chains moving. Wisconson was known for that, and Beliema brought that approach with him...and beat us with it.

I'm absolutely convinced that was the difference in the game. They had the biggest OL in all of football, College or NFL, and we were starting Vickers and Williams....both undersized DT's. Arkansas was able to exploit that size differential and it's why we couldn't stop their running game.

One of the reasons we run uptempo is to wear defenses down. Having a big 350lb OG beating on you for 3+ qtrs will also wear down a 280lb DT, no matter how good he is.

Foster had big physical fullbacks blocking for him. Hurd is finally getting push up front. I don't remember Foster being this home run hitter at Tennessee. Lamarcus Coker was but Foster has a way of fumbling all of his good plays out of my memory. 😁

Wiesman isn't going anywhere...... Richmond will step in and we'll get even better up front.

As you can see what he did by leading the NFL in rushing he had more skill than alot of running backs we've had. He underperformed imo.I think he was capable of alot more than he put out. His senior year should have at the very least mirrored his junior year. Instead he fell off. That's all I'm saying.

I think the running out of the shotgun leads to that alot of time.

Agree with this. Wiesman was our best guard this year. If anyone is going to be replaced, it'll be Robertson. He really needs to get in better shape. Him and Kahlil were the most out of shape lineman we had this year.
