I can agree with this. Unfortunately he can't show off his running ability that I think really sets him apart from the other guys in this class. He is an elite run threat with an elite arm. My thoughts on his performance in 7 on 7 is simply that he needs to learn when to laser one in there and when to add more touch. I thoughts his decisions were fine In terms of where he was throwing the ball. He just tried t show off his arm with all the big prospects in town

Got to have better awareness than that though. I know its a different animal when its live but everyone there knows his arm is elite, so he wasnt really proving anything. What they didnt know and never saw is if he can put touch on passes.

When your a competitive athlete among other competitive athletes with spectators judging and comparing your always trying to prove something. It's just natural to have this mentality to want to show off your cannon of an arm. He admitted in his interview that touch is something he is working on. He was hyped up and overthrowing people in day 1 of 7 on 7. Day 2 they didn't even give him a chance. He got one 3 and out drive and that's it. So he didn't have a chance to prove that he learned from day 1

Not worried about any of that. Kid has all the tools to be a great QB and fits our system perfectly. He'll redshirt in 2016, add some muscle, work on his touch passing, and battle it out with Dormady/Jones/Jennnings (hopefully still all 3 at that point) spring 2017.

Even if he never gets the touch to be a really high percentage passer, he can still be successful in this system. His athleticism and running ability will more than make up for that.

It doesn't matter what he ranked in this event, he has all the physical tools to be the best QB in this cycle. He may end up being a bust but he has the most physical potential in this class IMO. With some coaching and some time I think he ends up being a very good QB. These events generally mean nothing for better or worse.

He has the best physical ability of any QB we have had in a long time. I really liked Dobbs out of HS but his arm strength was a weakness due to being so skinny that I expected would come with time as it has. JG already has the cannon and elite running ability. He just has to continue working on touch and the mental part of the game. The sky is the limit but he is a better prospect coming out of HS than any QB in a long time to set foot on this campus. I'm not saying he will beat out Q or Jones come that day. I am strictly comparing out of HS

Dobbs didn't and never has had an issue with arm strength. Watch his HS senior year film. As soon as he came in against Alabama his freshman year, the commentators immediately noticed his arm strength. What he didn't have was touch on intermediate to long throws. Very little of that, in fact.

Rivals has a small 2:00 video with Jarrett and Woody Wommack up.

Jarrett said The Opening was a great experience. Top competition, great resources, and good teaching. He was going after Corley, Kyle Davis, Hardman, Swain, and Binjimen Victor.

Woody then asked out of that group, which player seemed most receptive to his pitch about UT... Jarrett said 2 guys were pretty receptive. Donnie Corley and Mecole Hardman.

He'll be back down next weekend in Knoxville for Orange Carpet. His bye week in HS falls on the weekend of us playing @Bama so he's not sure what game he'll be down for just yet.

Just to reiterate.... He said his recruitment is done. He's seen everything he needs to see at UT. He's just a recruiter now.

It's always good to have your future QB recruiting for you. Hope he can sway some recruits especially those Jersey boys.

Boom! Looks like we found our alpha male and ace recruiter for the 2016 class.

Here's an unnamed B1G assistant's thoughts on Guarantano

Tennessee pledge Jarrett Guarantano was another name mentioned by a lot of recruiters.
"He's going to be a star for Tennessee," a Big Ten assistant said. "He's a perfect fit for what Butch Jones wants from his quarterbacks. We loved his tape, and I know our coaches thought he had the biggest upside of all of the quarterbacks in this class. He's got some great tools to work with, and we liked what we saw from the TV footage."

He had some sort of technique issue. The balls wobbled and arched weirdly on short to intermediate throws. Maybe it was nervous sweaty hands or just forgetting fundamentals but there were times his throws looked wimpy because of it. There were other times he launched the ball a mile and had plenty of zip though, so I don't think strength was ever the issue. I'm not a qb and don't know anything about technique, but that's what it seemed like to me, some consistency issues with gripping or releasing or something like that.

Yeah, there was definitely something going on. It's possible he just doesn't have the biggest hands, either, and hadn't learned the technique to compensate for it yet. That's something you notice with guys that can absolutely throw the crap out of a football - Aaron Rodgers, Cardale Jones, and Cam Newton, off the top of my head, all have huge hands that make gripping and throwing a football very easy for them.

From the B'ham 7-on-7 tournament...

Performance: It was a solid day for Guarantano, who really impressed with his ability to connect with his wide receivers on deep balls. The only problem for him was that his No. 1 target had to leave the action early after suffering an injury, leaving him without his go-to guy for most of the day. Since it was pool play he also rotated with his backup, but when he was on the field he showed exactly why he's one of the nation's top quarterbacks - See more at: https://tennessee.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1783937#sthash.j5WiuWQ3.dpuf
